January 20, 1977 - Jimmy Carter takes the Oath of Office, followed by his Inaugural Address

On January 20, 1977, Georgia's Jimmy Carter was sworn in as the 39th president of the United States. "This inauguration ceremony marks a new beginning, a new dedication within our government, and a new spirit among us all. A president may sense and proclaim that new spirit, but only a people can provide it," said Carter during his inaugural address. - Oct 1, 2024
