I've been having a bad case of Melancholy lately

Due to 01/20 fast approaching. I haven't felt like this since I lost my dear sweet life partner David & our son Phillip oh so many years ago. I just can't shake it. Someone told me that I'm overreacting and I hope they are right but I fear they are not.

I am at a loss on how to deal with this.

The pain of losing David and Phillip will probably always be with you and make every other crisis worse. This is a crisis; I am very afraid for our country and the world with this lunatic and his unqualified friends in charge.

All I can suggest is that you stay with us here and together we will endure.

that feeling of melancholy by acknowledging it! Times like these really do dredge up the memories of incalculable losses that you have endured. Having lost my dear husband 8 years ago, I hope I have a bit of understanding of what you are experiencing. Sometimes we just fall back into barely inching along instead of getting along okay. My heart goes out to you. The suggestion of your local Democratic Party is a good idea. I became more active in mine and it does help. If you can find out who your precinct committee person is , they will have information for you of active Dem voters that live near you. I found out this way and we go as a group to events. Instead of depressing ourselves by watching the inauguration, we are going to a Martin Luther King march that starts at a park and ends at a theater for an event. Please keep posting and updating us through thick and thin. Sending gentle hugs.

Phillip our son was the first loss (17 years old hit & run drunk driver), then the love love of my life David two years later (from complications of AIDS).

It does feel good to open up & say it out loud instead of bouncing around in my head.

Once again thank you for nudging me to open up.

Melancholy is appropriate, under the circs — we just don’t want to have it cripple us. I admit my native level of low lying depression has a way of staining not just the present but the past and the future — and that’s just not healthy.

So turn off the tv starting Sunday, if not sooner, and let us adjourn to the imaginary DU party room. I’ll bring tortilla chips and homemade guacamole. Maybe some Sangria as well. Other people will show up as the word spreads.

I am just so sad. For our country, for the world, for my kids, for all of the creatures who are stuck having to share the planet with us.
I alternate between depression, fear and foreboding, anger and disgust with the people who voted for this.
I'm at a loss.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that trump's boundless stupidity and evil will end up being our salvation. Even the millions of idiots who voted for trump won't be able to handle what's coming, in terms of the utter failure and degradation of our nation. We Democrats just need to be ready to take decisive advantage of the clusterfuck that trump provides.

Wishful thinking? Maybe---but it seems to be working for me. Best wishes to you.

Throw yourself into doing things you like.

Hugs to you, dear William.
