And Biden to come by in the parade. I got so cold. I was running up and down. I bet we stood nine hours outside. I had handwarmers pasted it all over me. But everybody was having a great time. It was a huge crowd. I think it might’ve been around 28° at the highest but there was a windchill.

At noon on January 20 2009 it was 28 degrees with wind around 15 mph gusting to 20-25 mph. Wind chill was mid- teens

The forecast for Monday: mid to upper teens in morning slowly increasing to low 20s. Sustained winds of 10-20 mph with gusts of 20-35. Wind chill temperatures will be in the single digits.

I know many here think this decision is Trump wimping out. But it’s the decision. Think about the Democrats, including Joe Biden, who are planning to attend. Think about the security personnel forced to be outside for the duration of the ceremonies.

There could be lives and health at least at stake.
But I wonder what the odds. Has the EVER happened before?
I know they ALMOST went indoors for Lincoln's 2nd, but that was over rain so it was warmer, just very wet. At the last minute the rains stoopped. Beams of light peaking through the clouds lit Lincoln as he stepped up to speak. People thought it was a sign from God.

According to the National Weather Service, it was Sunny, but bitter cold. Wind chill temperatures fell into the -10° to -20°F range in the afternoon.

Taft's inauguration in 1909 was also moved indoors (was in March back then). It is considered the worst weather for any inauguration. Noon temperature of 32 degrees but a storm dropped 10 inches of snow over the Capital city. The snow and winds began the day before. Strong winds toppled trees and telephone poles. Trains were stalled and city streets clogged. All activity was brought to a standstill. Sanitation workers shoveled sand and snow through half the night. It took 6,000 men and 500 wagons to clear 58,000 tons of snow and slush from the parade route. Despite the freezing temperatures, howling wind, snow, and sleet, a large crowd gathered in front of the Capitol to view the inauguration, but the weather forced the ceremony indoors. The 10 inch snow fall ended at 12:20 pm but the afternoon remained cloudy and windy.

Note: all inaugurations were initially indoors - Washington, Adams, Jefferson & Madison were all indoors before the changed the tradition to outdoors with Monroe in 1817.

with wind chills 10 to 20 below. That inauguration was also moved inside the capitol, the last time that happened before this year. I honestly think Trump is afraid of getting sick since he's already in such poor health. Catching pneumonia would probably kill him.

At one point I had to take a break in the old post office building. We got hot drinks and I told my mom I was not sure if I could go out there again. We watched the screens and someone said Barack was walking in the parade. We rushed out there to our section (tickets purchased online). Minutes later Barack and Michelle were strutting down the street feet away from us. I was so excited. Did not complain about the cold for the rest of the day. lol

A spokesperson for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies said the committee was honoring Trump’s request to move the ceremonies inside. The National Special Security Event D.C. Joint Information Center said the Secret Service is working with its partners "to adapt our security plans as needed."

"The various Dignitaries and Guests will be brought into the Capitol," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "This will be a very beautiful experience for all, and especially for the large TV audience!"

"We will open Capital One Arena on Monday for LIVE viewing of this Historic event, and to host the Presidential Parade," Trump added. "I will join the crowd at Capital One, after my Swearing In."

Due to this change, the "vast majority of ticketed guests will not be able to attend the ceremonies in person," according to the Joint Inaugural Committee. "Those with tickets for the Presidential Platform and members of Congress will be able to attend in person."

Donald Trump Followers Left Stranded in Desert After Coachella Rally: 'Chaos'
Published Oct 14, 2024 at 6:57 AM EDT

Hundreds of Donald Trump followers were left stranded in the California desert after a rally in the Coachella Valley over the weekend.

The rally was held at an outdoor venue where temperatures soared to over 100 degrees. Despite the intense heat, thousands of passionate Trump supporters braved the elements to hear the former president speak. During the rally, some supporters reportedly collapsed because of the stifling heat.

Prior to the event, several buses were provided to transport supporters to the rally location. However, after the rally, poorly organized transportation logistics and a lack of basic services left many attendees scrambling to find their way home, with many stranded miles from their cars after the event ended, as reported by the Times of San Diego.

Videos posted on X, formerly Twitter, show a large number of people waiting in line after the rally. One, filmed from a bus departing the venue, has what appears to be a bus driver shouting to those waiting telling them that this is the last bus, with another passenger saying: "No more buses, they just got notice."
