John F. Kennedy delivered his inaugural address without a hat or overcoat in 20F weather

John F. Kennedy's inauguration on January 20, 1961 was held in subfreezing temperatures and heavy snow.
The storm caused transportation issues and threatened to cancel the parade.

A major winter storm hit the Washington, D.C. area the night before the inauguration
The storm dropped 8 inches of snow and temperatures were 20°F (-7°C)
The snowstorm caused a traffic jam that was crippling for its time
The snowstorm also reduced visibility at Washington National Airport to less than half a mile
The inauguration
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers cleared the streets with dump trucks, plows, and other equipment
The parade was in doubt until the snow was cleared

Robert Frost was unable to read his poem due to the bright sun, so he recited “The Gift Outright” from memory

Kennedy delivered his inaugural address without a hat or overcoat in 20°F weather

Trump is a weak baby

Maybe it's relative, we dress for it, and 23, sunny and little wind up here seems like a nice Winter day. I have gear that if it's not below 20F, I'll burn up.

People here are ridiculous. Trump, for once, makes a good decision and people act like idiots over it.

Just because in some areas it may be below zero quite often and people who live there are used to it, doesn't mean it's a good idea to have an event with thousands of people outside who are not used to the cold.

You're missing the bigger point. They're supposedly rough, tough individuals. It's been done before. Why not now? Weakness perhaps? Seriously, low 20's and bright sunshine isn't a bad day to be out for some of us. Guess you're the exception.

I certainly don't. Questioning peoples manhood over something like an objectively good decision not to expose thousands of people to extremely cold temperatures for an extended period of time (like a lot of people here seem to be doing) is a very Republican/MAGA thing to do. It makes the people who are doing it look silly. But you do you.

Honestly, this is probably a better decision than anything he did in his first term or likely will do in his 2nd. I'm not saying he deserves any special credit for it, but it is ultimately probably a good idea for all involved.

Anyone else have thoughts?
