With just days to go until Donald Trump returns to the White House, the president-elect’s social media accounts pitched Friday what may be the latest Trump-branded merchandise: Trump Memes, or crypto assets being advertised as “$TRUMP.”

If that sounds sketchy to you, you’re not alone: Many social media users wondered whether Trump’s Truth Social and X accounts were hacked — and continued asking that question even after the posts were up for several hours.

After calling on users to buy Trump Meme coins and “Join my very special Trump Community,” Trump continued to post on his Truth Social account, announcing a new deputy secretary of education — though her name appeared to have been misspelled.

The Trump Meme website says the assets are minted through Solana, a blockchain platform. The product’s website showcases a message from Trump encouraging potential customers to “Celebrate Our Win & Have Fun!” Scrolling further down reveals the meme itself, an image of Trump with his fist in the air with “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT” and his signature plastered across. A product description offers the explanation, “On July 13, 2024, President Trump faced death and came up fighting!” while touting the meme as a “piece of history.”
