The naivete (the symbols won't show in the title line for some reason) here has GOT to go.

I’m seeing posters calling him “President Trump” and I was already chastised for commenting that I will never call him that. The usual “we’ve got to give respect if we expect to get respect”.

Did the last eight years not teach Democrats anything? I’m sorry people, but wake the fuck up!!!

This is not charm school and we are not having tea. We are in the fight of our lives for the very existence that we have enjoyed up to this point. Those freedoms we have enjoyed are being chiseled away one by one. Some of us who are seniors have a sincere and real fear for our very existence under this idiot.

The way you fight a bully is with a bigger bully. You can’t shame him. You can’t reason with him. You have to FORCE him. The Democratic party is going to be forced to get its ass down IN THE TRENCHES and fight mano-y-mano with the assholes, or we are lost for good. There is no other choice. We need leaders who get that and are willing to fight dirty if and when needed. Which is going to be a lot!

I, and many others here, raved about Merrick Garland for years. We were met with “oh, just give him some time”. Well, you see where that got us!

Respect, my ass.

Think of a spectrum, with President Jimmy Carter at one end and Convicted Felon Trump at the other. Where do you fall? Be honest with yourself. I am much closer to President Carter than the Convicted Felon. I am decent, kind, and generous.

For much of my life, I was a door mat, allowing people to walk over me. A "go along to get along" type, but with a lot of help I transformed into an anvil. Attack me, beat me, try to make me change or move on a subject I know is right and the only result is that YOU will be changed, like iron being bent against the anvil's hard surface.

I will not be intimidated, I will not be moved. I am an anvil.

I was the same way...go along to get along, don't make waves, etc.

Then 2 things changed. I started teaching Health in High School and Middle School. Anti-bullying is part of the course, and after you repeat the same thing to a whole bunch of different kids, it sinks in...the ONLY way to handle a bully is to stand up to them, something our politicians better learn, and fast. The second thing is that asshole was elected because too many people in this country think it's obviously just fine to put a damned criminal in charge of things. The Police Union discovered it...now that the panther is eating THEIR faces, it's a problem.

So screw 'em all. They want a fight? I think they're going to be shocked at the level of resistance, and then they will, of course, whine about how unfair & mean Democrats are because we won't just let them run roughshod over us. We don't have to be bullies...we just need to be strong.

We have all become anvils, now. Or need to, real fast. They wanna play? Let's play.

I totally agree...screw them. Where exactly did "going high" get us? Michelle figured it out, and stood her ground when it came to playing nice with that cabal of liars and thieves. I taught Health at both the High School and Middle School level...and I spent a LOT of time on bullying. The message I hammered home was the ONLY way to stop a bully is to stand up to him/her. Pick off the "wing men" one at a time, and then go after #1. I'll guarantee they will crumble.

I post about how Dems have to be bigger assholes and grow a spine, and I get flamed by the "we go high" crowd, or the post gets jury-hidden for "bashing Dems".

I agree with the spirit of the OP. Dems are going to have to shift from being "nice" and "demonstrating that we are the party of maturity" to forceful and relentless activism.

Repubs have engineered their way to where they are by breaking traditions and doing what they do simply because they legally can. Example: Holding Obama's SCOTUS pick for over 10 months until after an election to get a Repub into a SCOTUS seat, and then rushing Amy Coney-Barret through 2 weeks before an election to get ANOTHER Repub into a SCOTUS seat.

But when we suggested urging Sotomayor to retire so Biden and a Dem Senate could get in a younger left-leaning justice in place for a longer term SCOTUS seat hold, we were flamed for betraying Sotomayor and thwarting traditions. Now, if Sotomayor's health deteriorates further in the next 4 years, we're going to be reduced to a 7-2 SCOTUS.

The excuse is that if we do it, that'll give Repubs an excuse to do it. Well, Repubs are doing it anyway. I don't see why we shouldn't throw the throttles to the firewall and do what needs to be done.

Sometimes you stick to tradition and decorum. Sometimes you employ rough strategy. Now is the time to be rough.

59. The Office of President deserves respect.

But the person who wears the title needs to earn respect, just like anyone else with a title.
Any title doesn't automatically imbibe the wearer with intelligence, respect or your cooperation.
That is a dumb-person type of fallacy.

Think of the past Presidents you liked and respected, and you will be judging on their personality and actions, not the title.

There needs to be a big gap between the words 'President' and 'Trump' before I'm comfortable with that.
(Some swear words interposed between the two words helps.)

"If people like you didn't look down your noses and criticize him... didn't keep investigating him... didn't call his supporters wrong for supporting him... didn't call him a criminal... didn't call his voters stupid..."

I say, people who commit crimes - you know, criminals - are investigated, prosecuted, and usually found guilty (if the courts don't give them special treatment).

When accused of calling them names, I say it must be in my nature - I'm told I am a commie liberal Marxist libturd feminazi coastal elitist (who's either too lazy to work and "sucks on the government teat" for "freebies" OR who's a "hot-tub lounging, chardonnay-sipping, latte-drinking, intellectual).

In any case, supposedly it is BECAUSE they're looked down upon by "people like me" that they vote for Republicans. I liken that to, "You callin' me STUPID? You wanna see STUPID? Hold my beer and watch this!" Then they vote for rightwing nuts, proving they're absolutely stupid. Is the point supposed to be, "See what you made me do?" Or "I'm not stupid?" Cuz either way, it's extremely stupid.

NO respect from me.

And they've thrown Decorum out the window. Not sure what Democrats should do about that.

He and that entire group of oligarchs who are next going to try to take Social Security - they will try to color it up by privatizing (which means Wall Street types have full access to charge all the fees they want - it will be a disaster.

I have NEVER called him president. I have always called him the grifter. I sometimes called him the Grifter in Chief, back in 2026. I now call him The Fucking Felonious Grifter.

The problem with people like him - is it is difficult for the "rest of us", because we have different ammo and wear and different uniform...and are playing on a different field. We need to adapt.

As befits a rogue dictator and an incompetent administration, there will be many changes fostered onto us, with appropriate language to paper over the destructiveness of those changes.

eg
'In the light of current affairs' = we are going to cut something.

'In hindsight, the J6 people were patriots' = Damn the Justice System, they are my type of guys!

'Tariffs will empower the economy!' = Expect prices to go up.

'This new appointee is inexperienced but perfectly suitable to the job' = He kisses ass bigly!

'Elon is my tech adviser and right hand man' = Elon bought the election for me. Ego almost as big as mine!

etc

Dictator Trump is probably the best thing to call him. It is accurate and it is not a joke. Jokes will not stop these people. Trump is a President only in name. What he is, in fact, is a Dictator who is trying to gain total control over the government and establish in America a Christian Fascist Police State. That is what is happening.

The OP is right on target. Trump and his gang of MAGA criminals are threatening our lives and the freedom of our nation. We have the moral right and the responsibility to defend ourselves. We must be as ruthless in the defense of our nation as Trump is towards innocent people. It is time to fight fire with fire.

I have called him Felon Scumbag (the Scumbag label inccorporates a LOT of awfuls, all of which he has earned).

Since his pardon of the Jan 6 insurrectionists, I have added Traitor. His pardon of the criminals he inspired is an implicit admission that he led them.

Everyone in the world knows exactly who I mean when I say "Felon Scumbag Traitor" and it keeps his crimes alive and present, IMO.

I will NEVER EVER use the title "President" for such a total POS. I gave him a brief chance in 2016. Never again.

Anyone on DU who tells me to "respect" or "work with" him, will immediately go to my "Ignore" list.

Glad you agree with my thinking.

I believe that what we’ve been seeing in the last few days with all that the asshole has done is much a “test” case to see just how much he can get away with. Nothing is stopping him and he’s only going to be emboldened to do more unimaginable things. Heard today that he’s made it where some health sites are barred from sharing information, etc. (I’m paraphrasing badly but don’t have access to provide a link just now) with the public until February 1st.

Things are only going to get worse until someone or some thing forces (emphasis on that word)…forces him to stop.

But that doesn't mean posters feel comfortable with the "president"......
