From Reddit: Church food pantry asked my mother to prove her legal immigration status. (Carson, CA)

Mom called me crying and totally freaking out, and I'm at a loss for words ...

She went to the local food bank, and carried her driver's license and LA Food Bank Card as usual, however today one of the volunteers got upset because she didn't understand a question he asked and had to repeat himself . Adding insult to injury she answered in spanglish (she has a heavy accent as well), the guy then decided that she looked undocumented and asked to see her "green card".

She had been going to that food pantry for months, now she's scared and mortified. This is LA County, and that pantry belongs to an effing "Christian church ".

I'm angry, mortified, and afraid for her. Need to vent, need advice. Don't know what to do. Already told her not to go back there EVER!!! Also to be careful, since they see her info on file when they scanned her card.

It's terrifying out there.

2. The MAGA crew has people moving in droves to atheism. Jesus would be ashamed of what they do and say in his name.

any duty designed to help others. What a jackass. On behalf of we sane Californians, I apologize to your mother for that nasty experience.

Their platform is DOMESTIC TERRORISM, and terrified is how they want us.

why don't the people who VOTED for that fascist fuck see that? Or can it be that THEY APPROVE OF FASCISM? People like that NEVER see themselves as its victims, NEVER.

they never saw it.

1. They deny or deceive themselves that it's not happening to them or rationalize and justify why it 'must' (otherwise they'd have to admit they were lied to, duped, PLAYED).

2. They don't care if they're getting fkd so long as they imagine some demonized 'other' is getting fkd MORE.

They willingly GET owned just to 'own the libs.'

A decidedly and malignantly sick-fk mentality if ever there was one.

If someone steals my food - they need it. If a child needs lunch -give it to them.

Here is something we can actually do. Call and ask them, 'what would Jesus do in this situation?'

A couple hundred, or a few thousand, phone calls ought to take care of this.

The Aesop’s fable “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” is soooo important now. Because the POS-POTUS is so wicked, we must be careful not to overreact. There are so many things to be upset about, I’m gonna be careful and was actually just thinking to give someone I was at odds with the benefit of the doubt like it was the 1967 summer of love.

I’m actually going crazy, and will wait for the call when crazy people are needed. That’s a resistance I can’t resist.

It just reminded me that it’s important to take everything, online especially, with a grain of salt.
