(62,222 posts)If he is just making nice with the Christians on the plane, it is the wrong way to do it.
He is scaring the other passengers and making himself look like a clueless idiot who gave up
trying to fly the airplane.
Currently in the US we are facing one of the greatest crises in American history.
Our democracy and freedom may soon be gone.
Telling us some sort of cryptic message about God being on some sort of throne makes no sense.
And looks like our leadership has totally given up.

(94,653 posts)WTF he is responding to. That's my question and then I wonder why everyone is all upset?
Looking from the outside, looks like it might be something somebody like leonskum might have had a hand in since he likes to fuck with peoples' accounts.
It is on xitter after all.

(20,624 posts)messaging (think MLK and even Jimmy Carter) but it should be tied into policy positions to help people. This sounds eerily like "just go along with it and God will provide" or too much so for my taste. Hope his other messages are better.

(20,624 posts)I follow him on BS and I couldn't find this post. Maybe I just don't know how BS works. His other posts on BS are really good. He's calling R's out for doing nothing to bring down costs for working people, calling out the pardons, and supporting CA during the fires. This one seems out of sync.

(17,447 posts)Does Hakeem know of the grave problems - Christian Nationalists who are often White Nationalists - are making for America ?
Bringing religious idealations front and center in the political spheres at the present moment might be inappropriate and ill advised.
Adherence to the Separation of Church and State might be considered both more prudent and paramount at this juncture.

Those of us who are 60, 70, 80 are watching the better world we tried to build be dismantled in a matter of days and this is one of our leaders response to that destruction. If this is real Im done. Im off DU, off politics, Im canceling the webcasts and authors Ive been following. Im done with politics. Im 78. Im going to sit back and make the best out of the few years I have left. Firstly, how about those of us who don't believe in god or don't know if there's a god?
Secondly, it's almost signals an abrogation of congress' obligation to work to save our democracy

(18,913 posts)Those offended over a religious message from Jeffries mustve forgotten we still have free speech. Some mightve forgotten the fact that most of the nation is religious, in some form or another.
Personally, I think its his leadership style. Laid back, with layers of symbolism.
Right now, I believe we need less preaching when the nation needs real leadership.
Other than that, maybe its code: MJ-12 where are you? The Swiss watch is ready. Wink wink. The flashlight is in the drawer. kind of stuff.

(18,913 posts)Democrats bashing Democrats who discuss religion are helping Republicans who have largely hijacked for themselves the political role of protecting freedom of religion.
And while GOP support for freedom of the press, religion and the rest of the Bill of Rights is no where as strong as the support members of the Democratic Party have provided over the centuries, we Democrats today are foolish to ignore the fact most US citizens identify as people of faith. Helping the GOP alienate these potential Democratic voters is political malpractice.
If you don't have a religious affiliation, believe something else or don't believe at all, great! I'll defend you, too. It's what Democrats do.

(29,194 posts)Free speech applies both ways. Of course he's welcome to say whatever he wants. But if he's conflating secular rule with "God is on the throne," that's problematic and I will exercise my free speech to reject that take and speak out against it.

(29,194 posts)his is a secular position. He can spout God talk all day to his family and friends but it is poor leadership and completely tone deaf to vulnerable populations experiencing the GOP Christian weaponization against their rights. It might be comforting to him and some Black church members, but its kind of terrifying for those outside that context to hear him basically say God rules! instead of Trump must be stopped!

(16,754 posts)And bullshit, anyway, since God doesn't actually exist.

That should have been posted on his private family Facebook page, imo.

(887 posts)Is that he knows Trump has no intention of going anywhere. He has said as much many times. He knows he is a fascist, bully, stupid and dangerous to every living person on this planet. And if he's paying attention he knows that God can't be counted to do anything just like the Holocaust and so many other terrible things humans do to other humans. If this is the best you can offer, just get out of the way, Mr Jeffries.

(2,301 posts)And I see it's been used contextually and historically by black church and community leaders.
I think we're seeing one of those sociopolitical juxtapositions where cultural influences are at play and the message won't resonate with everyone... and imo that's okay. It doesn't have to resonate with me, I don't find the content offensive, and presumably it's resonating with someone!
