According to WITN, the City of Greenville, North Carolina first began fining Camping World for flying its enormous banner last Wednesday. The outlet reported that the business was first fined $50, then $100, with each subsequent citation being $250. As of last Friday, the business had racked up $1,150 in fines, WITN reported.
The company first began flying the flag, which is 15 times larger than the size permitted on a non-residential property in the city, back in October of last year, per the station. It is flown from atop a 120-foot flag pole, but according to WITN, the City of Greenville does not allow for flag poles that exceed a height of 70 feet.
Despite the fines, Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis asserted on social media that the flag would not be coming down. "The flag is not coming down. You can fine me all you want City of Greenville North Carolina," Lemonis wrote on X.
The post quickly went viral and has been viewed more than 1.5 million times.
WITN reported that the City of Greenville's city council rejected a request for Camping World to fly the flag, accusing the company of raising the banner while being aware that it and the pole violated regulations.
In an update to the situation, however, WITN reported Sunday that its reporters were informed by Mayor PJ Connelly that Greenville's city council voted unanimously to develop an ordinance that would allow Camping World to fly its flag without further issue.

Greenville, like most cities that get the wind associated with hurricanes has a crystal clear ordinance about what can and can't be flown. Had he gotten a taller pole he could have had his massive flag. The ordinance was clear enough for a 5 year old to understand. You must have a pole of height x to fly flag size y.
