Reportedly, the Mexican cartels combined have around 175,000 members. Their activity also extends to many central and South America countries along with Canada, U.S., and Australia.
There has been talk from Trump and the far-right of dealing with the cartels, invading Mexico, etc. What do you think the cartels' united response to such would be?

(784 posts)Massacre American tourists in Mexico. Conduct cross border ops in small US border towns and kill innocent Americans. I hate to think of these scenarios.

(305 posts)But trump could care less about that.
This can open up a huge can of worms for him, but again he does not care.
Imagine being an armed combatant in an allied nation uninvited?
Imagine being an armed combatant in an allied nation, and you get left behind, or captured by the cartel.

(82 posts)Like most criminals they prey on the weak. They don't want to do anything crazy that will bring the wrath of the USA.
Everybody has plans until they get hit for the first time, Tyson said.

(22,151 posts)People like to think of the cartels as beng like what they see in movies, but it's really just large very profitable corporations who are brutal and murderous because they have the power to do so. The cartels absolutely have political influence in America. They buy candidates, and they donate to Super PACs. So at most, I could see Trump targeting one cartel at the bidding of another.
Follow the money, always. If the flow of illicit drugs was ever severely curtailed, Republican powerhouse industries like the for profit prison indutry would suffer, no way Trump lets that happen, those are his most loyal supporters. Republicans will never end the war n drugs because they get rich off from it. And they view ODs as a positive as they think addiction is a moral issue.

(112 posts)Could it then be said that Trump wouldn't do anything because he would fear the brutal and murderous consequences to him personally? A disgruntled American or two is one thing, a transnational criminal organization is quite another.
He doesn't care about that, he's untouchable and he knows it. He simply doesn't really care about illegal drugs and ODs enought to really do anything to make a difference.
