I hope everyone (and especially those with republican congressfolk) calls their senators and representatives to object

I lived for years in a deep red state, so I fully understand the sort of despair that can make it seem like calling isn't going to do much good. And in a lot of cases, to be honest, you'd probably be right, because the numbers just wouldn't be on your side.

But this is not a normal development, and it's not just a massive power grab. It is a move which, if carried out, poses a legitimate threat to the financial well being of almost every congressional district in the country. If you're in a bright red state or district, your senators and representatives might feel pretty confident about ignoring your call on, say, pushing through a tax cut for the rich or student loan forgiveness or supporting clean energy. But this is something that will hit their constituents heavily in the pocketbook, and I've got to believe that the scale and disruption of this has many of them less confident and less certain of the way forward.

I think that what the administration is doing here is basically penetration testing. They're seeing what they can get away with. And what they can get away with will depend not just on how much pushback they get from democrats, but also with whether the folks on the fringes of the GOP caucus are comfortable going with the flow or whether a few of them might peel off. Call them. Every day. See if you can get other people to call--especially anyone who works in a school or in health care or for non-profits or research organizations or various businesses or any of the myriad of organizations likely to be effected.

If you've never done this sort of thing: that's okay! It's a good time to start. There is not likely to be a better time to start than right now, with this. You can use sites like 5calls.com to find your representative and to give you a sample script to follow: https://5calls.org/issue/omb-federal-funding-freeze/

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from Bayonne.

I'm calling to urge Rep. [NAME] immediately support a resolution opposing the OMB's freeze on congressionally-approved federal funding. Executive branch interference with this funding not only creates massive economic harms but also directly violates the Constitution's delegation of spending powers to Congress. Congress must be united in opposing this blatantly unconstitutional action.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
