I am wondering how to arrange my life so that I can cope with the reality of what is happening while still finding a way to experience happiness.. Today, I made the mistake of watching the news and reading DU when I should have been watching episodes of Outlander on Starz.
First of all, I take back giving Musk the benefit of the doubt because of his being on the autism spectrum. I was mistaken in thinking that although he is a terrible person that he didn't possess impulse control or self-discipline. I allowed myself to be influenced by knowing people on the spectrum, all of whom, btw, are very nice people.. Anyway, I am now convinced Musk hates democracy, is an authoritarian, and means every thing he says and does. I find his proximity to power and the functioning of our government terrifying.
This past week is unlike anything the American people have ever experienced. Never has there been a president who came into power with the traitorous intent of undermining our democracy. There have been presidents with visions that millions of Americans were against, but never has there been a president that is the enemy of democracy and all that is good. (Even Nixon didn't come close to this menace. He actually believed the air should be clean and that the country needed a national health care system.)
What we have experienced and witnessed this week cannot be sustained. There is no way that people can live, let alone thrive, while living in chaos and lurching from one manufactured crises to the next.
Something has got to give.
Think. Again.

(48,222 posts)Block your day into bits. 15 minute meditation first thing. Use that to plan your day. Jot down some tasks to do with time estimates. Order them.
Eat good food. Protein feeds the brain.
Exercise. I like these 15 minute workouts on YouTube. Stretching and repetitive motion can make you tired, and has an element of cardio without full throttle fatigue.
Take time for reflection. Read something inspiring. Write in a journal. Listen to great music. Know what makes you happy, and do it.
Trust the process and the system, it's battle tested for more than 200 years. Trump is way out on a limb, even if Heritage is pushing him. Republicans won't back him forever. It only takes a handful.
Get quiet. Get cautious. Get working. Don't lose sleep. Think good thoughts going to bed. For a major problem with no solution, ask a question about it and sleep on it. Solutions are formulated with sleep.

I want to believe that next year, on July 4, 2026, we will be celebrating 250 years of our imperfect yet enduring democracy.

(952 posts)I will be planting Mexican sunflower seeds to help feed them. Any thing you can do that is positive for the creatures except squirrels and rats. Will help during these difficult days. Flowers help the pollinators and watching them can help lower your anxiety.

Lately I can't event tolerate news on my local public radio station.
I read all my news.
I've never recognized Musk as a fellow autistic spectrum person, but only as a racist sociopath and grifter who takes credit for work that is not his own.
He should have been deported the day he dropped out of school.
With any luck when the Republicans start turning on one another Musk will be among the first casualties.
The Fuckwit King hasn't yet realized he can drag Musk out of the limelight on trumped up charges (see what I did there? ) and take all his stuff.
