I've gotten to go behind the scenes at a zoo once, and the tour included the food preparation areas. The carnivorous birds like hawks and owls got whole mice and chicks, obtained from animal supply houses and delivered frozen. True, they were killed, but in a more humane and efficient manner than Kennedy did - his approach, and the fascination with collecting dead animals or parts thereof gives me weird serial killer vibes.
