Pay Attention!! That trump EO about deporting " Pro Hamas" students is another way to target legal immigrants

I searched and could not find the EO to read the exact wording. I am alarmed at this statement from an article posted in another thread.
I do not read that as him going after " Pro Hamas" students. I see it as an attack on legal immigrants. Do not be fooled that this is about Anti semitism.

"The executive order will allow the deportation of resident aliens — including students with visas — who broke laws as part of anti-Israel protests following the October 7th attacks in Israel, DailyMail.com confirmed.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/100219959761

Resident Aliens are permanent residents of the USA. "Green card" holders. Jamal Khashoggi was a permanent resident.

After 5 years of being a permanent resident, you can apply for naturalization. If not, you renew your permanent resident status every 10 years. Which is usually just a procedural thing, like renewing your license. Pay the fee and move on.

Deporting permanent residents for protesting - even if what they are protesting is disgusting would set a dangerous precedent.
Does anyone think that Pro Hamas protesters would be the end?
What about BLM protests?
Stephen Miller has suggested stripping naturalization from citizens.

I have long thought that this is a group that Democrats should go after. There are many permanent residents that never become citizens. I have some in my own family. They figure they work, pay taxes, not committing crimes, no need to become a citizen. They have all the rights citizens have - except for not being able to vote. They are not at risk for deportation. If you are convicted of a felony, then you can lose your permanent resident status. What I mean by go after is community engagement, boots on the ground to get folks to become citizens as soon is they are at that 5 year mark.

Furthermore, during the first trump admin, they increased the cost of naturalization to deter people from becoming citizens along with just mucking up the system causing longer wait times.

The Trump Administration is Making it More Expensive to Apply for Citizenship

DHS just announced a steep increase in the cost of applying for naturalization, a move that will harm hundreds of thousands of green card holders

Washington, D.C. — A coalition of leading immigrant rights organizations has condemned the Trump Administration’s proposal to drastically increase the cost of applying for citizenship, a radical policy shift that would prevent millions of green card holders from beginning the naturalization process.

Applying for citizenship currently costs $725, which already makes the naturalization process too expensive for many green card holders. The new Trump administration proposal would increase the cost to the applicant by $445, pushing the total cost to $1,170 and creating an unnecessary barrier to citizenship for millions of eligible applicants.
Compounding the damage, the administration also announced plans today to eliminate a fee waiver program for lower-income green card holders. That means any naturalization applicant—regardless of how little they earn—would have to pay the new, higher fees in full.

Another major component of the announcement is just as troubling. The Trump administration said it would transfer $200 million in fees that had been collected by USCIS, the federal agency which processes naturalization applications, to ICE, the agency that is responsible for deportations and which has carried out family separations and the administration's most hardline anti-immigration policies.
If enacted, these changes would sharply reduce the number of new naturalization applications, especially from lower-income green card holders. That will create a wealth test for citizenship, one that could exclude hundreds of thousands—and potentially millions—of otherwise eligible applicants.

For those feeling helpless, giving to ACLU, NAACP and other groups that will fight this madness, is one way to do something.

They helped get Trump elected by participating in activities against Biden.

Yes, these are not serious crimes. I don't know how many student Visa holders were arrested during the protests. Most were US citizens. I'm sure there were some Visa students who participated, but did they get aggressive etc? Many will vocally protest but most leave the scene if it gets aggressive.

If a student is expelled, they automatically lose their student visa. There were numerous documentations of students engaged in hate activities against Jews. They defaced hostage posters etc.

Why specifically use the term " resident alien" ? Why not just say student visas?
This is an entry way to target other legal immigrants. I don't believe for one second this is about Pro Hamas protesters.

how he can be "deported much earlier". I'm like WTF? When do reward violent criminals by sending them home???

(This is a Sinclair station in the background and do they think "deportation" "sounds tougher" than "life in prison", "Supermax"? ) It sounds weaker to me!!

Why is El Chapo serving a life sentence in the US and not in Mexico?? By their logic, El Chapo should just get a "homecoming" and "freedom" under Trump's EO.

Generally, we deport convicted violent criminals (murders etc) AFTER they complete their sentence. Not before. It's common sense!!

Anyway, the media seems to get lots of stuff wrong. Also, Trump's mouth gets lots of stuff wrong!!!

7. I'm sure El Chapo would love to be deported. - The EO signed on 01/20 - reads like permanent residents may be at risk

This is from the order he signed January 20th.

(b) To protect Americans, the United States must be vigilant during the visa-issuance process to ensure that those aliens approved for admission into the United States do not intend to harm Americans or our national interests. More importantly, the United States must identify them before their admission or entry into the United States. And the United States must ensure that admitted aliens and aliens otherwise already present in the United States do not bear hostile attitudes toward its citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles, and do not advocate for, aid, or support designated foreign terrorists and other threats to our national security.
SNIP---
(c) Whenever information is identified that would support the exclusion or removal of any alien described in subsection 2(b), the Secretary of Homeland Security shall take immediate steps to exclude or remove that alien unless she determines that doing so would inhibit a significant pending investigation or prosecution of the alien for a serious criminal offense or would be contrary to the national security interests of the United States

I am not an immigration expert or legal expert, but on its face, that reads like all " aliens" - which is such a dehumanizing term.

Ensure that they do not bear hostile attitudes towards citizens, culture -

Does someone participating in a pro choice rally qualify as someone hostile to culture?

8. "Alien" is a legal term. So, it is normal usage in an EO.

Simple example from the IRS:

https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc851
You're considered a resident alien for a calendar year if you meet the green card test or the substantial presence test for the year.

So, this part of the EO is problematic:

(iv) vet and screen to the maximum degree possible all aliens who intend to be admitted, enter, or are already inside the United States, particularly those aliens coming from regions or nations with identified security risks.

Because technically this could include green card holders.

The law states that green card holders can be deported, but they must be convicted of certain crimes or violated certain acts.
Crimes and acts are listed here:
https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/grounds-deportability-when-legal-us-residents-can-be-removed.html

Is he trying override current laws?
