Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are on the chopping block, trillions have been lost in the stock market, people's 401ks aren't looking good, wars haven't ended, America has burned bridges with its once-steady allies, all while taxpayers are funding golf around the clock.
But can you imagine the thought of any woman, let alone a woman of color being president? *Gasp* That would've been too much, so, so scary. We had healthcare reform 15 years ago that's saved lives, but did you know the person who signed that bill into law had the audacity to be president while black? The nerve!
I know the poor and middle class are going to/are being decimated and prices will be going sky high, and the America we once knew may never come back, but I just don't know what we would do with ourselves if a woman, let alone a woman of color, was president.

While hunting in the Mesoamerican rainforest, Jaguar Paw, his father Flint Sky, and their fellow tribesmen encounter a group of refugees fleeing from war and devastation. Returning to their village, Flint Sky notes that the refugees are sick with fear and urges Jaguar Paw to never allow fear to infect him. Later that night, the tribe gathers around an elder . .

(18,505 posts)we should not be lulled into thinking that the rest of America will FINALLY "get it".
The misogyny and racism will still be there in 2028. Perhaps even worse, as people's personal conditions worsen and they look even more for scapegoats.
It isn't fair, it's stupid, but if that's reality we'd better not ignore it.

(2,466 posts)They’re not the ones crashing the economy, they’re not the ones jeopardizing our national security, they’re not the ones who want to go after social programs that help others or go after consumer protection.
If we nominate a straight, white male, so be it, but the hatred of others has gotten themselves shot in the foot. They lost, too, and the only people who truly won in November were the oligarchs and Russians, if you ask me.

(39,381 posts)And when their mobile home gets blown away by a tornado, Joe Biden’s fault of course. Sorry, I’m a little bitter this morning. If they can foment this kind of hatred against Joe, one of the nicest, kindest man you’ll ever meet, They can convince themselves to hate anybody. I take it personally, the hatred of Joe Biden, and the hatred of Sarah McBride. They are insulting the whole state of Delaware and they’ve never been here.

(18,505 posts)Because I surely didn't and don't. That was not my point at all. I just reread my reply and have NO idea how the f*k you got that from it.
Why the hell bring up "trans" anyway? That is off-topic of the OP or my reply. (But for the wrong-wing folks it is like they are a bull in the ring and you just waved the matador cape. Please stop doing that. Unless that effect is your intention, which I surely hope not, and am not accusing you of.)
What you said in your last line is absolutely true, but that fact does NOT mean that these people will suddenly wake up out of their womb of hatred, racism, misogyny, and yes, anti-non-binary gender facts. When someone is hurting, often they will look to others to blame and have a veil of darkness surrounding their own complicity. This is what scapegoating is. And they will much more likely blame the "others" - those who look or live differently - than people who look and live like themselves.

We’ve heard amplified calls of the trans boogeyman for the past four years. Now they’re not so much of a boogeyman and responsible for other people’s ills, now are they?
RandomNumbers
(18,505 posts)Although I do think we should stop even bringing "trans" into it. Trans folks deserve human rights, period. Part of the evilness of our opponents is that when we state that, they try to make it into "special rights" or something somehow terrible. Well it is a basic human right and it is what our Dem politicians generally support - and for god's sake, even if a Dem is squishy on some specific policy trans people want, do you really want to push the Dem down when the alternative is FAR worse? This is the kind of recognition of reality that we MUST do if we are going to escape this nightmare. That is, stop introducing the "red flag in front of the bull" topics. Let THEM do that. And when the wrong-wing DOES bring it up, have a response that shows them to be the EVIL that they are. Don't need to get into specifics. It is human rights, and trans people are human. Period.

(1,672 posts)takes THEIR rights away. Republicans are very good at taking a generalized fear and redirecting it to a particular group and then let their underlying prejudices extrapolate the dangers of these groups.
I’m all for reducing talking about specific groups so they don’t use it as a wedge. If republicans or journalists bring it up I’d say I am for all Americans ti have the right to live the best life they can live, to have a great career, a family, and contribute to their community.
If the journalist or republican persists, turn the tables on them. Ask them how does giving people rights takes rights away from you?
They never ask that because there is no answer!! Of course you have to anticipate a response and have a ready made SHORT quip to throw back at them.
Republicans are very good at that. Democrats are terrible at that. They need remedial training in public speaking for the sound bite journalism we live in.

(7,632 posts)I'll bet a lot of those people who didn't vote for her "because" aren't feeling so good right now.
That sharp stick they took in the eye as an alternative hurt a lot more than they expected it would.
But, considering their inability to see beyond their own prejudices, they probably weren't using that eye anyway.
None are so blind as those who refuse to see.

We told them what would happen if The Orange Cancer was elected. Now, it's happening. If they had voted for the smart, tough, multi-racial woman, their 401k would still be intact.

I have my own idea as to why she lost but the fact that she was a female and a person of color was going to set off a segment of the population regardless of how great she was or how great she presented.
The fact that said segment was able to use it so effectively certainly suggests some... soul searching... may be needed in this country, eh?

(2,466 posts)If we say we’re from the future and this is what it’s like, what would honestly be different?
Some people who supported this nonsense are only pushing back now because of what it’s doing to them.
Ted Cruz is concerned because he worries tariffs causing a recession will lead to Dems winning big in 2026.
Ryan Cohen, the CEO of GameStop, endorsed the felon last year, but now had the nerve to post on social media the tariffs are turning him into a Dem and GameStop’s stock is plummeting.
How did we get into this mess? A lot, and I mean a lot, of people in this country are selfish to this core? We’re all selfish to a degree, we have to be, but many people take it to a whole new level of ridiculousness.

People would not be being round up and shackled, public lands would not be being sold off and numerous other things, and of late the markets would not have crashed due an insane lunatic.. is that enough, or need I go on?
I am talking about REALITY, not some futuristic ideas etc.
Sadly, millions don’t, unless they themselves are affected.
This is what this country and its people have become. For all the compassionate people in this country, you have the richest person in the world painting empathy to be a bad thing.
And I don’t think he’s alone in that line of thinking. We’ve gotten to the point that many people will only wake up when they themselves are impacted, and who cares about anybody else?
