Exclusive: Most Americans see Trump as "dangerous dictator," poll says (Axios)

https://www.axios.com/2025/04/29/prri-poll-most-americans-trump-dangerous-dictator

A majority of Americans say President Trump is a "dangerous dictator" who poses a threat to democracy and believe he's overstepped his authority by actions such as the mass firing of federal employees, a new survey says.

Why it matters: The wide-ranging poll released Tuesday, on Trump's 100th day in office, is the latest sign of him losing support for his immigration and economic policies — the two issues that largely fueled his election.

Zoom in: Only four in 10 Americans expressed favorable views of Trump after his first 100 days in office, according to the survey by the nonpartisan Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI).

And 52% agreed with the provocative statement that Trump "is a dangerous dictator whose power should be limited before he destroys American democracy," the survey said.

From the survey website:

https://www.prri.org/research/democracy-at-a-crossroads-how-americans-view-trumps-first-100-days-in-office/

White Christian groups are the most likely to approve of the job that Trump is doing as president, including three in four white evangelical Protestants (76%), compared with one-third or fewer of other religious Americans.

-snip-

Among Americans who voted for Trump and regret their decision, 55% agree that Trump is a dangerous dictator; agreement that Trump is a dangerous dictator is even higher among non-voters who regret their decision not to vote (68%).

-snip-

Just 17% of Americans agree that if Trump cannot get our country out of crisis in the next year, he should postpone the 2026 midterm elections for Congress or the U.S. Constitution should be amended to allow presidents to serve more than two terms in office, although Republicans are three times as likely as Democrats to agree with the second statement (27% vs. 8%).

-snip-

At the same time, two in ten Americans (20%) agree that “because things have gotten so far off track, we need a president who is willing to break some laws if that’s what it takes to save the country;” around three in ten Americans who most trust Fox News (32%) and far-right news sources (30%) agree.

Even though the GOP and Billionaire Bros are trying to keep everyone asleep
as they tighten their anti-American* fascist grip on the levels of power, and steal food and money from the poor.

WOKE the fug up, everybody, and stay WOKE

* GOP appears also to be fundamentally anti-Christian.
They talk the talk, then piss all over the walk

If even 5% of these non-voters had cared enough about our country to haul their asses out to the polls and voted, then our democracy and economy would have been safe.

Too bad.

Especially with the upcoming purges -- it's gonna be rough to think, even for a minute, "I could have done something to prevent this," as you watch ICE drag your neighbors of 10 years away toward a black van. With all the pain of loss and failure I already feel from the situation, it'd be a thousand times worse if I hadn't voted against the aspiring dictatorship. The election was the final moment when all this could have been prevented -- our nation was tested, and we failed: we missed the first and easiest goddam question on the test. Now we live in the deep shadow of dark consequences. To see that rising evil clearly and know you played a direct part in the willful destruction of your nation, that can haunt a person long-term.

2015. But I'll be among those who do not understand polls and these kinds of analysis or suggestions in this case there exist a shift of an awareness of facts that were already in play for way too many years, certainly before this past election.

not counting on the notion that the "electorate" has evolved in their thinking.

Right wing guest asks the family if their new born kittens were going to be good little Republicans.
The daughter says "Oh yes, sir."
Several weeks later the same house guest asks again "How are my good little Republican kittens doing?"
"Well, sir...", says the girl, "They are all Democrats now. Their eyes have opened."

I could see them delighted in killing a child with stage 4 cancer or letting people starve in Africa because of cuts made on USAID. The worst thing that happened to America in the modern era is rise of evangelical dogma and supremacy at the cost of the nation’s morality.
