Bezos backs down

Color me not shocked. Now says he never had plans to post tariff add-ons on main site.

Just heard on MSNBC.

You know the one where the father is arguing with his two year old. I find it so absurd. But maybe it is unintentionally
speaking a certain truth. In upcoming airings I will simple insert the man on the bench as a facsimile of Bezos and it
will suddenly make sense.

There can be lots of different rules about calculating and displaying taxes based on a language/country/market and they could adapt it for this purpose.

In any case, probably a minor amount of development relative to Amazon's regular workflow.

Of course Bezos folded. We saw that coming, didn't we? But Amazon posts state sales taxes on an item separately; so why not tariffs, which are also sales taxes?

And he did it even quicker than I thought. As far as the reporting goes, his statement said something about the tariffs being added only to some segment of his warehouse. Didn't get the details completely, but to be honest, I don't believe whatever PR backtracking he's doing now anyway. The point is, he folded.

A national sales tax. The largest tax increase ever! (Don’t care if it isn’t the largest ever, let the M$M prove otherwise).

The Republicans are trying to cover Trump’s tax increase with a fig leaf.

What they’re paying for a lot of that imported junk. Say they pay $2 each for a Chinese toaster when ordering 100,000 units which they then sell on Amazon for $19.99. So a 145% tariff would add $2.90 to the $2 price Amazon pays. So say Amazon raises their price to $22.99 to cover that tariff.

Do they really want people to realize they’re charging consumers 10x their cost for this cheap stuff?

Move here from a place where ALL shopping beyond groceries had to be done online. Now, this place is becoming a 'retail desert' so some items I need must be purchased online.

But Bezos just put the last straw on my camel's back.

Nearly every item I buy goes towards that “free shipping” pot and I wait till it’s full. Amazon keeps reminding me that over the past year I have spent $15 for shipping and why not sign up for Prime so my shipping will be free. Except Prime would be what? Almost $200 over that same 12 months? Pfft.

I’m really sorry you are in a retail desert — what a pain. Have you ever been to Costco at some point? You might check their online catalog to see what’s there and if it fits your needs, because they also deliver to card-holding customers. Just a thought.

You must really love where you live.

An old high school classmate of mine ended up in Washington state at the end of all creation — for a brief time my alumni group had a listserve, and when she passed away a group traveled out to her memorial. IIRC, at the end of the freeway they took a highway, at the end of the highway they got on a boat to proceed more hours by river and ultimately docked where visitors only went in summer with only a few year-round residents … The photos posted on the listserve were absolutely glorious.
