The American farming industry is getting hammered

It's not just the short term, while The Stable Genius flails at mastering the complexities and nuances of international trade, its future is being sabotaged.

We can't be trusted as a trade partner; other sources from other countries are stepping in with alacrity.

This can't be undone now, these self-inflicted wounds aren't just deep cuts, but bone breaking.

Putin and Murdoch must be so proud of the monster they created and cursed us with.

And not all small town farmers did. That's a myth, a myth that needs to be retired.

The millionaire farmers are more likely to have identified with him than not.

Almost every single small farmer that I know, including me, is a Democrat. Some are unaffiliated voters and didn't vote.

That mythical notion is disinformation when there's knowledge it's not true and it keeps getting shared.

Why some continue to kick someone else who's already down, is a mystery to me here.

Since 2016, farmers and others living in NC's rural counties have gone hard right. Even more voted for Trump in 2024.

I know there are liberal and independent farmers, but the vast majority of people living in rural areas voted for Trump. We need to figure out how to get them back.

That's precisely the point. Blaming farmers or anyone for that matter, is counterproductive. It certainly isn't wise to en masse insult them.

We need farmers. We need to change hearts and minds. Unfortunately, influence and persuasive actions are dependent upon a broad variety of factors. Plus, these individuals have to be motivated to change.

There are exactly only three types of motivation.
1. Internal, self motivation
2. External, motivation by incentives and
3. Punishment, being motivated by force.

I suspect anyone can guess which of the three I prefer.

yardwork, thanks so much for your reply.

I suspect HELP will not be coming until the Democratic Party gets control,
Or the GOP Congress decides that it is in their personal survival mode to impeach and Convict Donald Trump. And, that will not happen until the NATION as a whole determines that he is destroying all that is good about the nation.

Sadly, some of the MAGA will never see the evil of Trump nor accept the reality of what he has done.

Once the roving gangs start their quests for food... we will see how long this lasts.

Mainly because I would hope at some point the farmers would just do their thing and stop worrying about 'the market'. Then, we can just go to the farms and buy it directly.

Which, again, would be a major issue for the cities that are far away from any kind of agriculture.

I wonder how much longer people will allow the cities and suburbs to tell them they cannot grow their own food once this really starts to hit?

cognitive dissonance is described as a mental phenomenon in which people unknowingly hold fundamentally conflicting cognitions.[1] Being confronted by situations that challenge this dissonance may ultimately result in some change in their cognitions or actions to cause greater alignment between them so as to reduce this dissonance

It will be working on farmers as well as Catholic MAGA.

Guess who is going to buy up all the farms for pennies on the dollar. Billionaires! Plus they get wells and water rights in addition to gov't subsidies to not plant crops. They will incorporate new cities and rezone. It won't take much money to buy the votes in low population areas. Not to mention how easily those voters have been proven to vote against their own best interests, time and time again.
They may be Republicans but I believe our farmers and ranchers have been the keystone to which America was able to build upon. I wish they hadn't been so gullible.

Yes the idiot farmers voted for tRump, but the pain is going to be shared by all of us, those who voted for Harris, those who didn’t vot and those who voted for this fiasco. As far as agricultural exports demise, the damage has been done. The same is true for automotive, electronics and more. I was concerned about the loss of Canadian potash, who cares. Farmers will not be fertilizing fields because there is not reason to plant crops if there’s no market.

The djinn is out of the bottle, and the bottle is broke. It is not a benign spirit. It is a monster bent on destruction..

Find ways to resist. If that means joining forces with those who brought this on all of us, sso be it. We’re all in this together and finger pointing and wagging will not do.

States that allow recalls are one place to start. It doesn’t matter who signs the petitions - blue, red or I din’t care enough to vote. Just as tRump unified the Canadians and the Australians, it can happen here.

What actually does work is to seek consensus with them. There will be some areas, however small, that we will share. That give a foundation to build on.

Exploring the common strengthens and grows a real relationship. Next, is the hardest part, draw them to speak of their opinions on life and family. You listen carefully every now and then repeat back what they said that is troublesome. "You said (bla bla bla). Tell me more.

This does 2 things, shows you actually heard them and they are confirmed that they said it. By asking for more they have to leave opinion moving to why.

The whole point is to be non-confrontational. And in the early stages stay clear of the hottest topics. Save that for later. 1st build a relationship built on commonality.

The undeniable fact is that there is no amount of bad Republican farm policies; Republican caused economic recessions; bad Republican policies against the EPA; bad Republican oil policies and oil pollution policies from oil drilling on agricultural lands; bad Republican water pollution policies; and, bad Republican policies which refuse to deal with Climate Change which causes and encourages severe weather changes, terrible storms, floods, oppressive summer heats, droughts and dust none of which will in any way change the voting pattern of these ignorant Hayseeds. Farmers are aging out, with no kids to pass their farms to. God knows I didn't want to take over my dad's farm.

So, small farms get absorbed into mega farms, population drops, and rural towns that were supported by farm families die out. Hospitals close, grocery stores close, schools close.

Let immigrants in, let them buy those small 150-250 acre family farms, let them grow diverse crops and livestock instead of corn and soy, pop out 3-4 kids, and rural areas will explode again.

The racism and fear gripping rural America is killing it.
