So I got a letter telling me my credit union is merging with another credit union in another town.
As of September, I will have new account numbers for savings and checking.
Which I assume means I will have to change the numbers with S.S.
I have not been able to get into my S.S. online account in years.
The closest open office is 100 miles away
The credit union told me they are "working with the feds"and my deposit will automatically go into my new account with no action required on my part.
I find this very hard to believe.
To lose even one monthly deposit or have it delayed would be disasterous.
Any suggestions?

Nothing has changed but the name. My SS deposits have (thank God!) been made each month as usual. I hope the transition will be as easy for you.

The deposits continued but I did have to contact social security about my account number within a year to make certain that the bank routing number was corrected my account number stayed the same

(31,062 posts)3. Wife and I changed our SS log in
The old user name - password was outdated. Had to set up new log in. Go to the SS web site and they will walk you through it.
Even if your direct deposit gets taken care of I would still set up the new log in to have your records available in case you need them.
