CBO: GOP Medicaid plan would make 7.6 million people uninsured

CBO: GOP Medicaid plan would make 7.6 million people uninsured

The Medicaid portion of the House GOP’s massive domestic policy bill would result in 10.3 million people losing Medicaid coverage by 2034 and 7.6 million people going uninsured, according to a partial (CBO) Congressional Budget Office estimate.

Republicans released the estimates just ahead of the start of Tuesday’s markup of the Energy and Commerce portion of the party-line legislation, which is key to enacting President Trump’s agenda.

The uninsured numbers include 1.4 million people without verified citizenship who would be removed from the program and 4.8 million people who would lose coverage because of work requirements, the committee said.

level of Medicaid cuts.

The cut that’s proposed is less than 10% of Medicaid budget. While I’m not suggesting this is right, feds could reduce their portion of cut to say 5% and states — assuming the voters are not descendants of Nazis or the Klan — could pick up an additional 5%.

Again, don’t want any cuts, would prefer universal healthcare, etc., but looking for a way to preserve as much coverage as possible if MFers continue down this road.

I assuming those cuts are going to impact a lot of children of parents who voted for trump. My experience is that most love their kids, infirmed parent/grandparents more than trump.

He relies on Medicaid, and has his entire adult life. He's 69 right now, in a group home for developmentally disabled, but high functioning men, and has dialysis 3 days a week to stay alive.

All of it will stop.

There are 7 other men who live with him that will meet similar fates. They cannot be cared for at home anymore.

These cuts would mean that many rural hospitals and clinics would have to close their doors. Ironically, most rural voters are Trump voters.
