Harry Truman had Republicans pegged 77 years ago. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED:
"Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American ststandard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it.

(278 posts)Magats are going to vote for the real thing. Newsom is a big disappointment. I don't know if this is part of a larger scheme to flip the state red. Something drastic needs to be done about the housing situation. A millionaire-only housing policy is not a long-term solution unless the end goal is fascism.

(7,291 posts)You have people here saying Newsom is too liberal to be a viable candidate and we need someone more centrist. Then you have people saying he should not compromise at all.
And I won't even get into AOC or Buttigieg. Wasn't that long ago some were pushing Fetterman.
Me personally, would like if got to the mid-terms first so we could basically stop clown king first.

(1,870 posts)He's a stuffed shirt. He'll change his tune to literally anything popular at the time that he thinks will get him elected. It's not about his long history of governing as a liberal which will make him unpopular with moderates, or his recent swing towards the right wing, which will make him unpopular with democrats.
It's that he's slimy and can't be trusted.
Next.
We aren't getting the right wing vote. Republicans are going to vote for the republican candidate. Our candidates would do well to remember that getting our voters to turn out and vote for them is important too.
