Hubby had to see our doc whom we've seen for five years. Presented his Medicare Card, and the computer showed no such person! Despite the number on his official Medicare card. Always worked before. After working with the office Manager and blood pressure rises, we found his number had been changed. Arbitrarily and with no notice. Now what the hell??????? Watch out folks.

Hope it works out.

(28,407 posts)Data breach notwithstanding, trust me, everyone's cards have never been changed. Never.
Do tell me more about everyone's cards supposedly being changed.

(28,407 posts)In fact, I still have my original SS card from 1964, which states clearly it is NOT to be used for identification.
Maybe for some reason you got a new card, but I have never gotten a new one. Well, okay, about twenty years ago I could not find my original, so I requested a replacement card, but that was my request. I feel quite certain they have never just sent out new cards.

(38,093 posts)The thread is about Medicare cards. You seem to be talking about Social Security cards.
In case you are talking about Medicare cards, from the article:

(10,464 posts)got a new card changing her old number, her social security number with a letter attached, to a new, completely random number. Maybe they aren't done yet, now maybe they never will be.

(38,093 posts)Do some investigating and let us know if it really was DOGE, or something else.

(22,482 posts)It's not "confirmation bias" when musk cancels deals an puts himself (his companies) in place of the canceled contracts.
And given the total transparency of what trump/musk/doge are doing, it should be really easy to find out what happened in this case.

(4,008 posts)Is it confirmation bias to blame confirmation bias for every quirk in a system full of quirks because of DOGE?
Time will tell.
Either way...

(38,093 posts)Because I am aware that, like everyone else, I want/expect certain things to be true, I spend a lot of time fact checking before I post things in line with that bias - or engage in substantive conversation about the current someone else has posted.
Occasionally I get caught reacting before fact checking - but not often.

(4,008 posts)Just got back from Red River Research Experiment Station in Bossier City, LA with one large box of green tomatoes, one large box of ripe tomatoes, and nearly three pounds of cherry tomatoes.
I wanted to stick around for the yellow crookneck squash they were harvesting...
Unfortunately I needed to hurry on back to slap some front pads on our GLE.
They offer pesticide free vegetables from mid March generally through September. We're frequent customers!
Happy Friday again...
May your day be bright and your enjoyment immense!

(4,008 posts)Life difficulties precluded my usual spring plant starts this year...
So I'm working on getting up our greenhouse for the fall and winter.
I can start greenhouse pepper plants now... I'll have to wait a bit before I plant seeds for outdoor fall tomatoes and greenhouse tomatoes for the winter.
I'm excited about getting my Japanese Black Trifele tomato seeds finally started!
Looking forward to some friend green tomatoes today!
I generally make a little fermented chow chow as well!!

(38,093 posts)Prolific little critters - and the shape is much more varied than any other variety I've seen. "Pear-shaped" is only true for around half of them. I'm less fond of the flavor than of my other varieties, but any fresh tomato is better than none - and it fills in the gaps when the others are slower to provide fruit.

(4,008 posts)Here in North Louisiana the Japanese Black Trifele flavor rivaled Black Cherry, Brandywine, Cherokee and various Boarcreek varieties.
Somewhere I've got a garden notebook where I detailed the various varieties plant brix level at the time of harvest paired with the flavor characteristics of each variety.
My best results were in conjunction with foliar feedings and feeding my soil compost tea.
There are soooooo many great varieties it's always a challenge to even decide which to roll with in a given season.
I like that challenge!!

(38,093 posts)It and Black Krim are similar enough that I can't tell them apart in a blind taste test, but JBT isn't in that category.
I've got a standard rotation of 9 - with a 10th I haven't settled on. It lives on my deck so it needs to be a determinate (or compact indeterminate) and I haven't found a reliable one yet - and its purpose in life is to give me something earlier in the season. Haven't found a reliable one yet. The one I planted last year was supposed to be early and disease resistant. It turned out to be the last to produce - and the first to disease.
Unfortunately, my sun is limited - and the only spot with enough sun to get a decent crop is on a concrete pad. So mine are all grown in fabric pots with the same soil mixture. It does give me a way to compare apples to apples, though, in terms of taste/productivity since there is virtually no soil variation from plant to plant.
MayReasonRule
(4,008 posts)I wonder if perhaps I have some particular variant of Japanese Black Trifele...
Or perhaps it's just the difference in our climate and soil...
Either way Happy Gardening!!
Back out to finish up front pads on the Benz...

(6,545 posts)Your number on the Medicare website. Hubby's card was good in March but not today.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(28,407 posts)And I need specifics, not just a vague thing about it not being accepted somewhere. Why was it not accepted? Where was it not accepted? Why?
Asking questions helps.

(6,545 posts)Said their computer refused to accept the number. It wasn't valid. The office manager eventually used his social security number to get into Medicare site and got a totally new number! No notice to him at all. The card he carries for Medicare for years is now incorrect according to them. Huh?
PoindexterOglethorpe
(28,407 posts)You do NOT need a new card. Your SS# should not have changed, ever. If it has, you need to be in touch with your nearest SS office.
Meanwhile, you DO NOT NEED A NEW CARD. You don't. Notice that you don't need to actually show the card to get any kind of services or information or anything at all related to SS. So, at the risk of repeating myself, you don't need a new card.
snowybirdie
(6,545 posts)His Social Security card. It's the card Medicare card sent us all several years ago. It carries a random number with numbers and letters. Different
PoindexterOglethorpe
(28,407 posts)that might go inactive if you don't use it. It's your SS# on the Medicare card. Or a serial number connected to your SS#. You don't need a new card.
RobinA
(10,464 posts)technically NEED a new card, but if his doctor won't honor his old card with an old number, he's gotta get a new card with the right number. In fact, one doesn't really technically NEED to have a card in hand at all. They can easily look up your number pretty quickly if they want to. To me this demand for an actual card is a fun way of exercising control over the patients they aren't allowed to be outright nasty to.

(9,212 posts)Did you call Medicare? Hopefully they can straighten it out ASAP.
I think in New York, they are planning to maybe have a state wide health insurance that will be paid for from peoples jobs / taxes or something. Im not sure. Because there was a survey from one of our new reps sent about that. It says its also going to cover dental, vision, and ears.
But Im not clear on who is going to be allowed to be on it and if it will apply to people that are on Medicare, etc. If it means tremendously higher taxes, though Im not sure about this so I would like to hear more about it.

(6,545 posts)Straighten it out. Thank goodness!

(8,142 posts)When enough financially stable medical clinics have to put on more staff to deal with problems this administration's idiots create and start raising bloody hell with their reps, maybe the GOP hack on the Hill with do something.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(28,407 posts)received a new Medicare card. No, never. I'm pretty sure they never just send out new cards, nor do they phone people to ask them if they've gotten the new cards. Usually they say they need to verify the last four digits. Nope. Never gonna do that.
I will say, that given how many millions of people collect Medicare in some way, it's not surprising that on occasion someone gets listed as dead who really is still alive. That kind of thing has always happened, and I know they can be quite slow in un-deading someone.

I launched in right away. By the time I was done she should have been too embarrassed to keep working there.
But I know she probably needed a job. I feel more sorry for elderly people like me who couldn't go to work if they needed to.
