"Under" only because he made the brash (what other kind is there for him?) move of removing the board members. Name me another president who has done that.

No president has ever done so.

He dismissed half the trustees and then had the ones who he appointed vote him chair. He named one of his buddies as executive director. After that he proposed $250 million for capital renovations and improvements. I'm sure I don't have to point out to you what he's doing here. The only art here is the art of the "deal."

At some point this arrangement will be investigated and I'm not so sure he'll come out on top. In the meantime, I see no reason to give him credit for his bullying, egregious assumption of power, and nefarious dealings. The term "under" is wholly offensive and should be avoided not only out of sensitivity, but out of respect for the American system of checks and balances which will kick into play when he takes his first kickback.

People wise to his game are waiting and watching. In the meantime, I won't give him any credit he doesn't deserve.

I have an old school friend who's quite an accomplished cellist; she played for a big-city orchestra for years. Yo-Yo Ma was once a guest performer with the symphony, and prior to his performance he allowed all of the symphony cellists a chance to play his Stradivarius instrument. Brilliant talent, decent guy---come Christmas season, listen to his rendition of the ancient "Wexford Carol" with Alison Krauss. Goosebump city...

Washington Performing Arts will present Yo-Yo Ma, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and Midori at other venues instead.

Washington Performing Arts “will not utilize The Kennedy Center” for performances in its upcoming season, the organization announced Thursday. Instead, it says, it will use venues like the Music Center at Strathmore and Lisner Auditorium.

The season’s highlights include Sigourney Weaver and the Pacifica Quartet at Sixth and I for WPA’s annual Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Concert, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Strathmore, Yo-Yo Ma at Strathmore, and Midori at Sixth and I.

A spokesperson for WPA says the presenter works to “thoughtfully match artists and their work with venues that best serve the art, the audience, and the moment.” In that light, the spokesperson says, “we assessed the variety of artists and performances we have in this upcoming season and decided it was best to explore new spaces that offer fresh possibilities.”

Other artists and organizations have spurned the Kennedy Center since President Trump took it over, most prominently a touring production of Hamilton. Trump has expressed a desire for the center to present shows like The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables—which the center will present next month, though some cast members said they plan to sit out a performance for Trump.
