I once worked with a gentleman in Tennessee who was gay and in a loving relationship with a nice guy. He also had six children. After we got to know each other, he explained to me that he grew up near 'Butcher Hollar', the same place that Loretta Lynn sang about. He explained that he was always gay, but there was literally nothing else to do around there but drink and fuck. And, he was in Tennessee, of course, so being 'out' was not an option.

They were all great kids. (Well, three of them were in their twenties, so that is not exactly the right word to use, but hey, they were all kids to my old ass.) They had all left the 'hollar' to go to college and moved around the state. Not a one resided in their home town anymore. I guess dad impressed upon them the reality of staying in such a place when one does not want to be a farmer/husbandperson/hiding out from whatever type.

It just goes to show you, that bragging about births doesn't tell the whole story. The real story is how many of those live births live.
