League Of Women Voters Opposes Redistricting Mailer is a FAKE!!!!!!

IMPORTANT NOTICE

You may have received a mailer from “Protect Voters First” about the redistricting ballot initiative this November. By naming our organization and quoting Gloria Chun Hoo, the mailer wrongly implies that the League of Women Voters of California is part of their coalition and endorses the information contained in the flyer.

This implication is not correct—we are not part of that coalition. The League of Women Voters of California did not authorize this action.

and on their website said they were against gerrymandering no matter who does it, also saying they are against what Newsom is doing and Texas is doing.

They are talking out of both sides of their mouths, and while they may not be affiliated with that mailer, they sure as hell said they oppose any redistricting no matter who does it.

Which is nonsense, since the only reason California is doing it is to offset what Texas is doing to try and prevent a rigging of the election.

If California was trying to "rig" the election, they would have redistricted more than 5 seats. What they did is match what Texas did, and in addition, the Governor said this was temporary to offset the rigging that Texas was doing.

made that very clear through OP ED's in the Sacramento Bee from Gloria Chun Ho their president, and other areas on their website. I wouldn't be fooled by their "taking the high road" stand bullshit.

https://www.sacbee.com/opinion/op-ed/article311506653.html

In addition, when I got the mailer this morning I went to the League of Women Voter Website which had a splash screen saying to vote no on the redistricting. How did that happen?

Either their website got hacked or someone is lying.

The League of Women Voters better do something stronger than post a memo on their website, they need to sue someone's ass if they are falsely using the League for something they did not do.

Someone spent a hell of a lot of money to send those mailers.

Also, on August 15, 2025 they responded to what the Governor is doing by saying he is wrong:

"WASHINGTON & SACRAMENTO — Today the League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of California issued the following statement in response to Governor Newsom’s latest interview on mid-cycle redistricting:

“Governor Newsom is ‘dead wrong’ on the League of Women Voters. We are aligned with voters. Period.

“Gerrymandering is a threat to democracy, regardless of who does it. When it comes to redistricting, the League has a decades-long record of opposing partisan gerrymandering by both major parties, including recently in Texas. We know who loses in this kind of fight: Black and brown voters.

“Our record is clear: we fight against President Trump’s anti-democratic policies in the legislature, in the courts, and in the streets.

“What voters want is for their leaders to stand up to authoritarianism, not silence their voices in an arms race for political power. Californians built a community-driven process for creating fair maps. A rushed special election, where voter turnout is notoriously low, does not empower Californians.

“The League of Women Voters will not be bullied into changing our nonpartisan identity. We know who we are and what we stand for. Join us to stand up for democracy, against whomever threatens it.”

https://www.lwv.org/newsroom/press-releases/league-governor-newsom-fighting-voters-never-wrong

so what is it? They are sending mixed messages, and talking out of both sides of their mouths.

That's probably why they are against this current push.

They aren't GOP. They are strictly non-profit, non-partisan and most of their members are affiliated with the Democratic Party.

The LWV are non-profit, so they can't be like, "Trump is such a threat, we need to toss our values out". It's illegal for non-profits to engage in electioneering.

They put up quite a fight in Texas, but the GOP ignores them.

They organized letters, testimony, rallies, phone calls all in an effort to stop this terrible gerrymandering. But the GOP has a super-majority in both houses here, unfortunately.

website and through editorials that they are against this redistricting no matter what party does it.

The mailer is probably from a republican pac effectively quoting what the League of Women Voters advocates, and that is being against the midterm redistricting.

However, on redistricting I disagree.

I received a mailer today from the Protect Voters First group, sponsored by Hold Politicians Accountable. Who are these two organizations?

Who knows? I could find any information on either of them.

the California legislator is doing, saying they are against whoever does it.

"Dear Governor Newsom, Senate pro Tem McGuire, Speaker Rivas, Chair Pellerin, and Chair Cervantes:

"The League of Women Voters of California writes to express our strong opposition to mid-cycle redistricting for California’s Congressional seats.

Californians fought hard to take redistricting out of the hands of politicians and put it in the hands of the people to ensure that the people can choose their politicians and not the other way around. There is a good reason for that. Our independent redistricting process is one of the best tools that we possess to ensure that all communities have a voice – including communities of color and rural communities that have been historically marginalized. It’s a critical way for us to promote meaningful political representation and to make headway on encouraging engagement in the face of California’s significant problem with a participation gap that yields an unrepresentative electorate. Furthermore, while the Voting Rights Act offers a degree of protection for historically marginalized communities, it won’t protect communities of interest with populations too small to trigger that safeguard. In fact, a partisan map could erode hard-fought gains made by communities through the California Citizens Redistricting Commission process."

https://lwvc.org/opposition-mid-cycle-redistricting/

That is nice if thing were NORMAL, but we are NOT dealing with normal, and it would be fool hardy just to sit back and say we are against what Texas is doing, and with a "wish and a prayer" hope that this Supreme Court stops it, because the odds are they won't., or they won't do it in time for the next election.

disagreement with Newsom on it:

They also indicated that opposition to the redistricting on their website.

A mailer sent out from a republican mega donor, is quoting the League of Woman Voters being Against the redistricting, which is technically accurate, however, it is a deceptive piece of trash quoting different groups, but not telling the full story.

Charles T. Munger is financing this garbage, and he is a supporter of right wing causes.
