A Photographer's View of ICE's Relentless Courthouse Arrests

A Photographer’s View of ICE’s Relentless Courthouse Arrests

The shattering of faith in America’s goodness is the hardest part to watch.

When it happens, it’s so much quieter, so much quicker than you expect.

Each weekday immigrants make their way through the halls of 26 Federal Plaza in Manhattan, uneasy and confused, searching for the right courtroom for their asylum hearing. Most carry a handful of documents and dress in their sharpest outfits. They turn a corner and stop cold as they stumble into a team of black-masked agents huddled against the walls.

The agents stand, shoulders slumped, eyes cast at phones, hands tucked into plate carriers affixed with velcro patches advertising a constellation of three letter agencies—ICE, CBP, ATF, DSS, FBI, HSI—and the US Border Patrol. One is struck by their casual sloppiness and lack of proper uniforms. Take away the service weapons and body armor, and they could be delivering pizzas.

… It is this breach of trust—this shattering of a person’s faith in the benevolence and intrinsic fairness of America—that is the hardest thing to watch. Here legally, engaged in a sanctioned process to determine their eligibility for asylum, they have committed no crime. They are arrested anyway, and the lives they’ve risked to come to the United States are thrown into chaos.

As to how they are able to hang out in courthouses to prey upon people coming out of hearings.

This is the first time I've seen a female ICE agent. In one of these pics.

The police noticed my friend, and ran a check on him because they knew him by name. Apparently he had a warrant and they arrested him right there (i was maybe 17). Im not sure how common that is, but it is disturbing they do these things.

The Marine Corps designation for a Military Occupation Specialist (MOS), 0302, is an officer who leads and manages Marines in combat. Now he performs his duties hiding behind a mask. What a pathetic loser.

I am 83 years old and never would believe that we as a nation have come to this.
Yes, I have Medicare and Medicaid. If this is gone, I might as well find a bridge!
My sympathy to all those who are subject to the whims of Ice and the other military organizations.

I am also a widow with only Social Security on which to live. If this goes by the wayside, I don't know what to do. At my age, most of us have health issues, some of mine are major.
No $, no health insurance, no S.S.. No hope.

trump is a curse on this country.

They certainly are Nazis. I hope that when their time to pay back their bad karma, it is quite painful.
