Is destroyed. I see no possibility of fixing this. It was hellishly difficult to pass the ACA. I doubt very much we can fix this. How many will die? Don’t kid yourself SNAP is gone too. We got nothing.

And of course - more tired bromides about, "butter knife to a gun fight .. !"

call-outs of Democrats. This will calm down soon. We are still in the "stunned, trying to figure out what the hell is going on and why (and who supports what)," phase, so early assumptions will be fevered and emotional. That is why I have not posted about the ongoing situation--still trying to figure it out and get past my immediate (granted negative) reactions.

It will calm down--whether through jury alerts for the worst offenders-- or as everyone figures out the landscape and implications, and the discussions become more analytical (or pragmatic) to support future action.

a call-out of some kind to my post, but regardless, I share your deep-seated concerns over Medicare, Obamacare, Medicaid, and Social Security. That is accompanied by a strong sense of fear--that we will see the poor and seniors without options, and we know what happens to a society when that occurs (massive homelessness, hospitals overwhelmed/underfunded to the point of closing, and a massive increase in suicide rates, as well as incarceration rates for many without jobs or options).

As I stated in my post, my first impression was overwhelmingly negative and I did post that**--but then decided to step back and see who/what/why acted as they did and the implications (including proposed counters from other senior Dems in Senate and Congress--which will come). But, I don't think my post upstream deserved whatever the banned poster chose to say to me, so aI will leave it there.

and some very very fine hair-splitting... but it misses the point entirely. Someone's silent disappearance would be meaningless; nobody knows why they left. Their announcement is precisely what gives the action declarative power as a 'boycott' rather than just an unexplained or ambiguous absence.

The intent is clear: the user is done after hitting 'post', and their subsequent silence and lack of participation or engagement confirms that.

Doesn’t indiscriminate use of exclamation marks connote sarcasm in contexts like these (while we are being pedantic ;-/) ?

I thought they did. That’s how my friends and I use them anyway.

On that point, the only good Trump ever did me was get my dad to reconsider the use of all caps …I finally managed to convince him that all caps typing indicates shouting not emphasis.

and seamlessly integrate all of those subtle and humorous nuances, or to be aware of other DU traditions and inside-jokes and parody devices. I'm willing to take them at their word without judging too harshly and without scavenging for clues to try an incriminate or embarrass that poster.

They made their point... they're gone... oh well. The the grand scheme of things, it will make no difference, but they derived some satisfaction from making their point (and perhaps from this extended discussion, too.)

Maybe they'll return later after things calm down and everyone has had a chance to reconsider. Or not. After all... this is just an anonymous discussion board and clearly, at this point, they are looking for something different or something better. Let them.

A comment ending with a mix of exclamation points, and number ones meant sarcasm.
So like-

Trump's a great President!!!!!
(says a magat)
vs
Trump's a great President!!!1!!1!
(says a DU'r)

That's how we did it.🙂

And I've used 2 to 3 exclamation points to really express strong emotions on occasion.

The exclamation point thing did start between a friend and I as a parody of the magat Trump thing.

My friend has also taken to referring to Trump simply as President (following in Pam Bondi’s footsteps apparently) or worse MY PRESIDENT.

If I glimpse an all caps message on my phone screen these days, I know President has been on the rampage.

It is not a forum for profession politicians or government officials. It's a Democratic party fan site. Like a site for fans of a football or baseball team filled with people who never played professional sports. So most don't really know how political campaigns or government really work.

Just because someone is posting an opinion or idea you don't like?

I read EVERYTHING out there, not just DU, both progressives that I agree with and the vile MAGA trash too. Why? Because in order to defeat our enemies, we have to know how they think, and we must analyze the strategies they used to worm their way into power.

We have to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the American Left as well. In order to build a coalition that can win the next elections.
