I am not in despair over the "Sunday Night Sell Out"

Tuesday's Blue Wave still happened.

And I believe it put enough power into the right hands to make the needed changes to the power structure of the Democratic Party.

So in a way, the "Sunday Night Sell Out" was a blessing in disguise - with glasses... lowered on the nose.

It put a bright spotlight on who and what needs changed. Now there can be no doubt.

It's a temporary setback that cannot and must not stop the resistance.

It is the last gasp and swan song of a way of doing things whose time has come.

There is a point where shutting down is not the best idea. We made inroads and have momentum. GOP will suffer the blame for ACA going forward, whatever form that takes. The House might even go back in session because they have to vote on the deal.

The discharge petition requires the signatures of a majority of members of a full House. That means 218 (1/2 of 435 +1) . 213 Democrats and 4 Republicans have signed the petition. 215 Republicans have refused to sign it. Grijalva will be signature number 218. The results of the 2 remaining open seat special elections make no difference.

Besides that, the House passing the legislation is still a long way from the files being released. Once the House passes, the Senate still needs to pass it then Trump sign it (which will not happen).

But the House will force the vote on the legislation. The House MUST reconvene to reopen the government. Once that happens, Grijalva MUST be sworn in (the Courts will order it if necessary).

Was that way myself last night, then this morning I realized our side must have a bigger game plan than any
of us realize. Did our side discover the IQ4.7 game plan was to never reopen the Government so when
there was riots in the streets he'd declare Martial law? There's something going on behind closed doors
our elected Ds are not telling us about because I'm sure their game plan is not folding to IQ4.7's will.

and what happened in the senate last night are completely unrelated. No Senator was up for election on Tuesday, they were mainly local elections. Other than Kaine, none of the 8 senators come from a state where any the major elections on Tuesday took place.

Regardless of Tuesday’s election results republicans still control the presidency and both houses of congress.

Mon Nov 10, 2025, 10:36 AM

But at this point it became obvious that Republicans were perfectly fine with the government being shut down forever. They were never going to relent on the ACA subsidies. I think they actually take pleasure in hurting the most people they can. So, sooner or later, the Democrats were going to have to agree to a CR. The Democratic party will not let people suffer unnecessarily forever. I think they should have waited longer, but I can see why some were ready to end it now - they didn't want the air traffic to be a mess come Thanksgiving and even if courts ruled in their favor, SNAP benefits using the contingency fund would have lasted less than 2 months.

The public now knows that if your health insurance premium skyrockets, it is 100% the fault of Republicans, and they don't give a damn about you.

The other mistake many here make is thinking that ALL Democrats think (or should think) as fanatically about this stuff as they do. That's just not the case. People not getting their SNAP, people whose flights were getting cancelled, Federal workers not receiving a pay check - they already all know this was due to Republicans. Keeping things shut down indefinitely was not going to change things. All it would do is make them continue to suffer while still not seeing any benefits in the long run.

This only hurts Democrats if Democrats (like many here) use it to attack the party moving forward, instead of keeping the focus on the one and only party responsible for this mess - the Republicans.

If there is and it does, then we won this. If there isn't and it fails, then we lost.

These are people's lives. This isn't a political football, this is life or death to many Americans. That some Dem senators just don't care about those lives gives a lot of credence to the idea the parties are the same and just don't care about regular people. I know most Dem Senators held the line, but it just feels like the party gave up, feels corrupt, and feels like doom.

They got cute and used Senators not up for re-election next year or ones that were retiring for the surrender vote.

So here's the metric we use instead:

If you aren't pushing for a new Democratic leader in the Senate *immediately,* you're out on your ass.

Dems turned their backs on the poor and agreed to cut their healthcare in exchange for flights for Thanksgiving. Boo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Senate Repugs already had a vote on this and they all voted to gut it - they will do exactly the same if they even allow a vote which I doubt because they don't want to take the heat for cutting off healthcare for hundreds of thousands folks. R's are nothing but liars and I have deep disdain for all the 8 who sold out for a total lie - and they know it!

The Republicans ripped it apart and made it useless before it was ever made into law. Before we had the subsidies, back in 2019 for me it was going to be $1500 a month for super crappy insurance with a high deductible. The subsidies brought it back closer to being affordable.

Point is the ACA was a sad compromise for what could have and should have been a move toward universal healthcare, which is what Obama proposed in the beginning.

Instead our predatory "health care" system has total power over us today and for the foreseeable future.
