Conservatives yell âsocialismâ at every initiative designed to help people.

Maybe you've heard the word a few times already today.
But this is nothing more than an old scare tactic.
A functioning government requires pooling resources for the common good. Let me explain.
Those observing Christmas are celebrating a family of asylum seekers. If there is indeed a "War on Christmas," it's being waged by those trying to make our country less safe for the poor, for the marginalized, and for refugees.

(1,378 posts)...ever wonder why the rich have no reluctance about getting help from the government, despite their rants against the government helping others.

...and persons who should have been pushing back against that framing had other priorities.
Once upon a time, conservatives/RWers had to keep their freakishly expansive RightWingonese definition of the word among themselves, because they'd look like loons if they said that among normal people. But that was back when there was an obvious counterexample: the big country on the other side of the world with "socialist" right in its name. To most people, what they did was socialism, so calling anything we did by that name was just nuts.
Then the Soviets fell, and they responded by pushing that definition more and more, to the point where that freakish definition is apparently the general usage.

They can have their dream, this fantasy of Liberty and Justice for All.
Not being an asshole to your fellow humans seems a bridge too far. The othering is endless. Fuck ICE. Fuck MAGA. Fuck trump.

(22,858 posts)my danish e-pal visited usa for a month. he caught a bug on the plane(asthma). his 1st week in nyc was cut short by a short hospital visit. after dc + week in chicago, he spent his last week in milwaukee. he had to call home about the hospital, but then we did a bunch of stuff.
he got refunded for his days lost. we got money for the phone calls. sadly he thought our restaurant workers were paid like his + didn't understand tipping.
after he was home, he got pneumonia + sent a month in the hospital. he wasn't bankrupted. since he didn't have a car, they sent him home in a taxi.
