'You can't rename the Lincoln Memorial': Joe Kennedy III blasts Trump
Former California first lady Maria Shriver, the niece of former President John F. Kennedy, sharply criticized the Kennedy Center board’s unanimous decision to rename the venue “The Donald J. Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.” It’s now widely referred to as the “Trump-Kennedy Center.”
Shriver called the move “beyond comprehension” and said it stains Kennedy’s legacy.
Joe Kennedy III, JFK’s great-nephew, also criticized the vote. He argued that federal law protects the center’s name and compared the renaming to changing the Lincoln Memorial. He wrote, “It can no sooner be renamed than can someone rename the Lincoln Memorial, no matter what anyone says.”
Shriver wrote on X, “It is beyond wild that he would think adding his name in front of President Kennedy’s name is acceptable. It is not.”
