so they will be TOTALLY outraged by trump's performance on New Years Eve, the night before millions lose their healthcare subsidies, right? He bid one hundred thousand dollars for a painting, and then called another auction goer's bid of TWO MILLION dollars for a painting "peanuts".
Again, all of this happened at his estate last night on the eve of millions losing their healthcare. Real man of the people. right? And if a Dem did this........sorry, but I think the corporate media would need 24/7 medical emergency personnel on standby for the next six months to assist with all the heads exploding.

(24,254 posts)but not about trump. Apparently, Mamdani's wife wore six hundred dollar boots to the inauguration. You see, some things are just not acceptable to the corporate media.

(4,039 posts)Call me crazy, but it seems to me like white men who champion the preservation of white male privilege get all the passes, all the credit, and none of the blame. If you aren't with them you get none of the passes, none of the credit and all of the blame. And the MS media is in on it.
I'm just going out on a limb here.

(10,192 posts)Except you left out one thing...
It is wealthy white men privilege. I assure you that dirt-poor white men are either lost in the cult, or understand that all of this 'privilege' is only being given to the rich, white men. (Or the ones who have done a good job of passing as one.)
BaronChocula
(4,039 posts)Maybe my last.
I didn't dig into the details of the hierarchy, but wealthy white men are certainly on top. But being white and not so wealthy also has its privileges as data from police stops and criminal justice outcomes will suggest. I think the Southern "good old boy" is descended from the poor Southern whites who were granted status over newly freed blacks following the Civil War. That power didn't make them wealthy, but it gave them license to act as Jim Crow enforcers while the white folks of means still disparaged them as poor white trash.

(10,192 posts)But, money is always a factor.
Always.
My wish is to remove that power from the little green piece of paper, but I might as well wish for Godzilla to walk up from Lake Superior and visit.

(4,190 posts)NEW YORK New York Attorney General Letitia James today released the following statement after Donald J. Trump was forced to pay more than $2 million in court-ordered damages to eight different charities for illegally misusing charitable funds at the Trump Foundation for political purposes:
Not only has the Trump Foundation shut down for its misconduct, but the president has been forced to pay $2 million for misusing charitable funds for his own political gain....Funds have finally gone where they deserve to eight credible charities. My office will continue to fight for accountability because no one is above the law not a businessman, not a candidate for office, and not even the president of the United States.
As part of a resolution of the lawsuit announced on November 7th, Trump was ordered to pay $2 million, or $250,000, a piece to eight different charities. Those charities are Army Emergency Relief, the Childrens Aid Society, Citymeals-on-Wheels, Give an Hour, Marthas Table, the United Negro College Fund, the United Way of National Capital Area, and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Additionally, Trump was forced to reimburse his namesake foundation $11,525 for sports paraphernalia and champagne purchased at a charity gala, which was added to $1,797,598.30 already in the foundations bank account. The combined $1,809,123.30 was split evenly and recently transferred to the eight agreed upon charities. Each charity ended up receiving a total of $476,140.41.

that is what he said. He thanked the bidders. Do you think he would have done that if Trump stole the money?
But, sure, go ahead and call me a liar with absolutely no evidence to back up your claim. Whatever makes you feel better
paleotn
(21,561 posts)He didn't have a choice. That was part of the event. Where'd "steal the money" come from? I merely stated I doubt he'd donate anything. Certainly not if he didn't have to.

(888 posts)I'm simply saying that a charity auction benefitting an organization that treats childhood cancers for free is a wonderful thing. My family has been donating to St. Jude's for decades. And, until St. Jude's comes out and says they didn't get the money, I will assume that they did get the money.
maxsolomon
(38,206 posts)Charity auctions are a nice way for rich people to assuage their consciences and reduce their taxes. If someone could donate that much for a POS cheesy painting, they could straight up donate more directly.
