1. Trump will eventually announce an agreement with Greenland to locate an anti-missile defense system there even though existing treaties already allow him to do so.
2. Trump will also announce that Greenland agrees to expanded rare metals mining even though existing trade deals established procedures for it.
There will be no Greenland invasion.

(13,805 posts)because none of the oil companies will give him the 1 billion he asked for. CEO of Exxon told him Venezuela is " univestible", which pissed Trump off. So now he's trying to swindle every country he can think of...

(9,052 posts)and tRump will frame it as an invasion.
He will declare victory after a serious round of tough negotiations has finally yielded a result that is in line with his demands. This result, as pointed out in the OP, will mean finally reaching agreements that were made years ago, and are still in force.
Next, he will demand that the Finnish Nobel Committee award him the Nobel Prize for Physics, honoring his world-shaking discovery that water is wet. Finland will request additional NATO protection until such time as Rubio can remind Trump that there is no Finnish Nobel Committee.

(105,648 posts)even though they don't think it's needed, and it only defends the USA (maybe Canada at a push, but I doubt Trump will want the design to do so. If subsequent presidents and congresses actually continue the project, they may well fix it to be of use to Canada).
The problem is that NATO will end up agreeing to pay something, just to get him to shut up. It's like being a contractor for him - at some point, you give up trying to get him to pay his bills because fighting him through the courts takes too much time, and there's the risk of lawyer's fees.

The letter reportedly ties Norways Nobel Peace Prize decision to Greenland, questions Denmarks right of ownership, and declares the world isnt secure unless the U.S. has Complete and Total Control of Greenland.
PBSs Nick Schifrin reported the text was obtained from multiple officials and circulated by NSC staff to European ambassadors.
It reads like a meme.
Its not.

Here is another version

- despite anything Machado may say it is only on loan to him
- and he is only a caretaker for her prize
- and caution him to take good care of it for her.

(175,528 posts)I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, the president said in a truly bizarre text message to Norway's prime minister.
In case there were any doubts, that utterly bonkers message Trump sent to the Norwegian prime minister? Itâs entirely real.

He effectively argued, in writing, that his crusade for Greenland is partly the result of the Nobel committee hurting his feelings. #madking www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...
https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-connects-his-greenland-crusade-to-his-failure-to-win-a-nobel-peace-prize
The message, first published by PBS, read in its entirety:
Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a right of ownership anyway? There are no written documents, its only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT
....For now, lets not dwell on the fact that Trumps message was filled with several factual errors (he has not, for example, stopped eight wars). Lets also brush past the fact that he apparently believes the Norwegian government is responsible for awarding Nobel prizes (its not).
Lets instead consider the nature of the American presidents pitch: Norway hurt his feelings by failing to give him an award he wanted but did not earn, which means he no longer feels an obligation to think purely of Peace, and which further leads him to believe that the NATO alliance should simply let him buy an arctic island, which isnt for sale and which does not want to be part of the United States, with money he does not have.
Theres been an ongoing conversation for quite a while about whether Trump deserves to be seen as a mad king. As the public digests his message to the Norwegian prime minister, its likely that conversation is poised to grow considerably louder.
