and I assume many others similarly situated, pay $4.99 out of a limited income to watch tonight's Miami vs. Indiana football game because cable TV has become unaffordable. THE FAT ORANGE NAZI MOTHERFUCKER GETS TO GO TO THE GAME WITH HIS WHOLE ENTOURAGE AND THE CITIZENRY PAYS FOR IT!!!!!!!

(10,394 posts)from OTA to streaming and all the streaming channels raise prices. America seems to be based on just one thing....money.
As far a taxpayer funding the idiot - it is sad. Just last month, like most years since I retired, I had to do a "direct pay" to the IRS to make sure I don't get a penalty for underpayment. It really sucks these days because to be honest I do not like the way my tax dollars are being spent at all. It seems we are funding a government that is totally corrupt at it's core. They don't care about anything but enriching themselves and use their vast power to ensure it stays that way - underfund education, suppress voting, spew hate and bigotry, etc.
Anyway - just to let you know...you are not alone with your frustration.

(10,756 posts)but found a way to get ESPN and any other station/network you can name for less than $20 per month. I am a Yankee/NY Giants fan who now lives in North Carolina so I had to find a way to watch my teams and have been doing so since I moved here almost 10 years ago.

(31,185 posts)There is nothing here nearly that cheap.
Jersey Devil
(10,756 posts)Don't know how legal it is so I use a VPN, but there are plenty of services that offer all the stations you can handle. I tried a bunch of them until I found a service that was reliable (always there and with minimal buffering, which you are always going to get with those services). I use apollogroup.tv
Every once in a while these services get shut down and you have to get another one but I haven't missed a game that I wanted to see yet.

(31,185 posts)I will try them. MS-Now is a necessity.
Jersey Devil
(10,756 posts)MSNOW, CNN, BBC, ESPN, any MLB game you want, all the NFL games, even stations from almost any foreign country you want, plus every premium network you can name including HBO, Disney, Netflix, Starz, and on and on.
Try the free trial. The worst that can happen is you get too much buffering for you to handle, which often can be worked out.
ruet
(10,187 posts)and aren't paying $29.99/mo to get ESPN to watch a game that should be on broadcast TV. You can buy a one day pass on Sling for $4.99.

(2,844 posts)that isn't necessary.
I do not watch network shows, usually less than 10 total.
TNF on Amazon, Peacock, Para+, Sunday ticket,...
The word is VALUE. That's just TV.
Try taking your family to a game and watch a thousand disappear.
Then get some food.
But you can cancel after the game! I find that dishonest.
It's been a good 70 year run with the NFL.
Now let's check out the round ball football! Affordability!
Like Vegas, they don't know when they have peaked.
Look at the attendance numbers for the Giants, Jets, Raiders and Dolphins.
Empty stadiums for home field.

(31,185 posts)I may try the Direct TV Free Trial or save it for the Super Bowl. I don't recall using that one.
Cable and Internet here would run around $200 or require a complete swap of equipment.
Jersey Devil
(10,756 posts)All you need is a cheap OTA antenna to get networks (unless you are somewhere out in the boondocks).
rzemanfl
(31,185 posts)I am in a large apartment complex with lots of metal and trees. Before cable, the homes in my area had large antennas on towers so the signal must have been weak. The only clear signals I got were from the Home Shopping Network which is just a few miles away,
Jersey Devil
(10,756 posts)I got one of those plastic antennas you hang on the wall for about $30 from Amazon and pull all the networks plus about 30 other stations from Raleigh, which is about 50 miles away and even some from Charlotte, which is about 200 miles away, far beyond what the antenna is rated for.
rzemanfl
(31,185 posts)Are you in a single-family home?
Jersey Devil
(10,756 posts)Single family home. Sometimes I have to move the antenna around a bit but that seems to do the trick, unless there is really bad weather. The picture is also much better than cable, sharper.
rzemanfl
(31,185 posts)When I tried those antennas, the picture broke up when the wind moved the tree branches. We had discounted cable as part of the rent until last year.
Polybius
(21,558 posts)It's not cheap, but it's a one-time fee, legal, and you get to watch almost anything (no Netflix, Hulu, or streaming services).

(4,892 posts)You can sign up for a free trial of DirecTV, Fubo or Hulu, all of which carry ESPN, and then cancel it right after the game or before five days have elapsed.
Or you can find one of the out of country betting sites that carry the stream.
