Despite who wins the next election, why will anyone ever trust the US again - economically or militarily. China appears to be a more reliable partner.

(13,257 posts)Even if we gave elections in 2028 and a Democrat becomes president, both allies and enemies know that another Republican Trump-like administration could take over four years latter and undo everything the Democrat tried to accomplish. World leaders now gave to address climate warming with zero help from the US since Trump is forcing dirty coal plants to continue operating and killing clean energy projects.
No one can rely on peace initiatives from Trump or Republicans because all they care about is exploiting situations and world events to enrich themselves.
No one who is not white can risk traveling to the US without being hassled by CBP, and even two white German teenagers who flew to Hawaii were detained and strip searched simply because they waited to arrive here to choose a hotel. And anyone who fails to provide five years of their most private social media posts now can be denied entry. Few people can trust the US as a safe place to visit now.
Eventually more countries will do as Canada just did and turn to China and away from the US because our political system is no longer trustworthy. We will truly be America Alone because once stable alliances are established with other nations, the US becomes less important.
Unfortunately I think we have too few voters are have convinced themselves that so long as white people are in control of government everything will be fine.

(27,500 posts)Sure, France and the U.K. have since WWI, and thus so has the post-WWII Europe of which they were the initial leaders, but the rest of the world? All most of them have experienced from the U.S. has been us using our influence, military or otherwise, to install leaders favorable to us and willing to let us take their resources.

(2,349 posts)Republicans will never be trusted on the world stage -- at least not for a generation or two.
With very few exceptions, the Democratic leadership has been of a generation coming of age in the 1970s. They have demonstrated over and over again that they cannot recognize the threat of fascism, and they aren't willing or able to do anything about it if they do recognize it. So the rest of the world will not soon trust Democrats.
The only way to regain some trust and to rebuild deeply damaged alliances is to sweep out the current leadership and replace them with people who are seen as serious and competent as :
* Carney age 60
* Pardo age 63
* Starmer Age 63
* Merz age 69
* Macron age 48
* Xi age 72
* Zelenskyy age 47

The second Iraq war, the isolationists before we entered WWII. Jim Crow, our various foreign interventions in the 1980s.
As Churchill may have said, Americans can be trusted to do the right thing, once all other options have been exhausted. Might be made up, but it resonates for a reason.
