First of all, there is the white privilege that has for so long defined life in rural America:

So this unlicensed racetrack--read: illegal betting--that had a distinctly Hispanic name and was run by immigrants was "part of the social scene" and protected by a security company run by a conservative, but "[n]obody thought something like this could happen here"?

This sort of thing is endemic in rural red areas across this country: their white privilege tells them that they have the right to do all sorts of things that others should not enjoy the same right to.

Whether it is illegal moonshine, drugs, gambling, animal fighting, tax evasion, etc., rural white America enjoys their privilege--and it is so embedded in the culture now they are often shocked when it breaks down.

But the malAdministration is so dedicated to their racism that even white privilege is being pushed out of the way to satisfy their lust to inflict pain on immigrants.

It might move the needle eventually....

Four months later we hear how rural towns are being decimated by Pedo Trump's federal goons. I heard some folks here in rural East TN say the pedo was sending his goon squads here. I thought it was just conspiracy thinking. But now, I'm not so sure.

October is prime harvest season. I wonder if all the crops were picked and collected? February and March is freaking cold in Idaho so not much for immigrant farm workers to do. Though here in East TN, March is prime planting season. Yikes, I wonder if any planting will get done?

The median IQ of Americans is 100. That means half of us have IQs above 100, and the rest voted Republican.

These are people who don't think, they just look to those they consider their intellectual betters for instructions and protection.

So when Trump's thugs attack them just like they were Blue State people, their whole belief system crashes and they are just lost and confused --- and frightened, too, because they suddenly realize that the pain they enjoyed being visited on others is now being visited on them, and there's no where to turn for protection.

It's "bottom half" panic.

But come election day, these same people will vote for Republicans again, maybe with tears in their eyes, hoping they'll be readmitted to the protective arms of the GOP.
