(2,941 posts)you should go after Senator Adam Schiff for exhibiting his lack of insight for agreeing to be on his show. It was obviously his decision to do so, he needs to know the consequences. Punch up, not down!
It's a live show, surely one with a way with words could convince him to immediately cancel tonight's appearance before it's too late.
Here's his contact information: https://www.schiff.senate.gov/contact/get-in-touch/ Phone: (415) 393-0707
Go for it!

(2,941 posts)We have a play to attend tonight, The Recipe, playing at The La Jolla Playhouse, which is about the life of Julia Child. Really looking forward to it. So I'm taping Real Time for watching later this weekend.
I'm not familiar with Annabelle Gurwitch but she could be interesting. Adam Schiff is my Senator, I've always liked him, and adding Don Lemon to the mix should make for a good discussion.
And of course, his opening and New Rules are usually fun. Thanks for posting!

(254,208 posts)Enjoy your play and the show (which is repeated later tonight) and thanks for your helpful idea which I started doing with the previous show...

(52,032 posts)Adam Schiff is worth listening and Don Lemon... the only thing that I remember about him, while still at CNN was asking what TGIF stood for...
Thanks, again, for posting. When do you sleep?

(254,208 posts)And you're right, I do need sleep - my doctor sent me to a sleep specialist because I sleep too much!

(145 posts)However, I might have to catch some clips of Adam Schiff and Don Lemon on the panel.

(52,032 posts)What difference does it make for us, the audience, that whatever he posts on his media about Maher is full of lies? He never tells the truth. We know that.

(26,413 posts)He was scolding Dems for being so disgusted with Orange Mussolini that they were unwilling to work with him. Of course, some had tried in the past, but it never worked out well.
Bill insisted that you have to talk with Trump because, after all, he's the president of the United States.
So he goes off to dinner with him and comes away from it saying that Trump, as he suspected, wasn't really a monster. He's a character who puts on an act in front of the cameras, according to Maher.
And then after Bill makes fun of Trump, of course widdle baby Donny gets his fee fees hurt and he lambastes Maher repeatedly on social media.
So Bill found out that Trump will allow access to some people, but what is expected in return is unconditional loyalty. This comes as no surprise to most of us, but Maher has to eat crow on that front.

(26,413 posts)that anyone who is so quick to slap labels on people rather than see nuance and shades of gray is simply closed-minded.

(2,941 posts)with several of the FBM crowd. They either refuse to respond at all or do so in a frivolous manor, such as posting a picture of Maher with Hugh Hefner.
The poster you responded to used what one might call social or rhetorical weapons:
● Labeling (closeted Republican)
● Tribal signaling
● Sarcasm (Bless your heart)
● Dismissal
These are not meant to prove anything; they are meant to score points socially and reinforce group identity.
You, on the other hand, used intellectual weapons:
● An appeal to nuance
● Criticism of labeling
● An attempt to elevate the discussion
You brought a chess piece to a knife fight.

(2,941 posts)a sweeping claim thats both undefended and undefendable.
And the word fan is doing a lot of work here. Does fan mean someone who agrees with everything he says? Someone who watches occasionally? Someone who finds parts of the show worthwhile and parts irritating?
If watching Bill Maher makes someone a closeted Republican, what are we supposed to make of the many Democratic politicians who choose to appear on his show?
