What the hell is going on here at DU? Oh Krasnov did a TACO and chickened out on his war crime. WTF?
Threatening to commit war crimes should not be a tactic for the United States to get Iran to negotiate.
We should be debating if our military would follow through or not, on committing this war crime.
Blowing up nuclear power plants is something insane. Is this what Krasnov's United States has become, a country that will commit war crimes to get our way?
Iran denies the negotiations are making progress, if there even are negotiations being held.

(32,160 posts)we committed war crimes by blowing up those fishing boats off Venezuela.
We're desensitized to it because people are cut and pasting right wing talking points here. I'm shocked.

(32,160 posts)that Krasnov is threatening to commit war crimes to get his way then yeah, it's a right wing article because of the omission of that one important fact.
Using the threat of a war crime to get Iran to negotiate should be soundly denounced. The answer isn't to postpone committing the war crime, the answer is to denounce it in the first place.

(40,471 posts)Google search shows several sources CBS, ABC, FOX, BBC, Reuters, NYT, AP...
They all reference his threat to blow up power grids, without saying it's a war crime
I see your point though

(32,160 posts)I want Jane to marry me, she keeps saying no. So finally one day I tell Jane that I am going to kill her mother if she doesn't marry me.
News articles come out with the story that Jane still undecided about marrying me.
Shouldn't all of the articles be about my threat and not about marrying Jane?

At least on AlJazeera they say violation of the Geneva Convention and war crime every time they mention Donvicts threat.

(23,083 posts)Trump threw a hissy fit over Hormuz.
Iran says hey its open to everyone except the US, Israel and allies (whoever that is)
So, Iran deftly removed the reason for the threats, adding their own threat to close Hormuz permanently if the attacks continue.
Just to be perfectly clear: Iran is in the drivers seat here- they held all the cards, and they played them well
Traffic in the strait is slowly resuming, and economic repercussions are slowly subsiding.
The killing, at least for the time being, has stopped.
Those are all good things.
Of course, Trump is spinning like crazy to try and make himself not look as crazy as he actually is.
These events are cause for celebration, not continued griping.
That Trump is a war criminal was established long before the events of the past 24 hours.

(32,160 posts)it shouldn't have been a surprise.
What are economic "repercussions?" Iran is charging 2 million dollars per vessel to get through the strait. Iran has never stopped shipping oil to China, it is even shipping more oil to China after the war started.
Not opening Hormuz 100% will still have significant economic consequences, will Krasnov be OK with that and surrender?
The only way out for Krasnov is to surrender and I don't think he is stable enough to realize that.
I have seen Iran open Hormuz for Pakistan, India and one other country I forget. China was never stopped from Hormuz.
What will be the price of oil seeing as Iran is charging 2 million dollars for "some vessels" for safe passage through Hormuz?
Fiendish Thingy
(23,083 posts)It was $80/bbl before Trumps war began.
Turkey, a member of the EU, has also been allowed to move ships through the strait.
Iran says the strait is open to everyone except the US, Israel, and their allies (whatever that means).
Do you have a current link (as in today) to support your claim of the $2 million per vessel charge?
KPN
(17,351 posts)it went into low to mid $70s -- prior to the war's start. It was $67/barrel the day before (Feb 27) we and Israel bombed Iran to start the war.
