Should Artificial Intelligence posts be identified as AI postings?

(63,146 posts)somehow talented or creative, even though it takes only a vague text prompt to get AI tools trained on all the intellectual property the AI company could steal to spit something out. Anyone here could use AI of different types to generate and upload hundreds of examples of AI slop every day.
Same if it ever becomes okay to use AI to generate replies here. People using AI agents could post replies to every new OP posted here, without having to give any thought to any of the replies.
It would destroy DU as a community.

(63,146 posts)on Bluesky who posts AI slop. Those artists are liberals, but they consider AI slop and all it represents anti-liberal.
A DU forum intended as a playground and showcase for people who love generative AI will send the wrong message about AI, period - and would especially send that message to liberals who oppose all the harm done by generative AI and the AI bros.
A pro-AI forum for people who like AI slop to post it would IMO be equivalent to having an anti-labor forum. Not to mention an anti-music forum, anti-art forum, anti-writing forum and anti-education forum. It would also be a pro-AI-broligarchy forum.
Remember how Blueskyers responded to the head of a teacher's union foolishly posting AI slop as "fun":
American Federation of Teachers president thought AI slop would be "fun" to share on Bluesky. Big mistake.

If you support unions (DUers should) but still think it's OK to post AI slop, see the hundreds of Bluesky replies

And I want to emphasize again just how fast a forum for AI slop would fill up. Zero effort required from the AI users. Almost zero thought required.
And for what? The forum wouldn't showcase any real artistic ability, or any real ability to think and communicate with other people.
It would be a showcase for pretense via AI. Every single such use of AI requiring more electricity and water than any of the replies typed by people here. Every single post of AI slop by AI lovers in effect an ad for AI, and worse - a message by someone self-identifying as a liberal signaling they're still fine with generative AI and the genAI tools created by the AI bros in spite of all the harm being done by them.
What a terrible mixed message that would be for DU to send.

(81,779 posts)From my perspective, allowing ai only in 1 forum would make it easy to avoid simply by trashing the forum.
But that would send the wrong message.
Ai is antithetical to labor & liberal values.

(24,152 posts)And with threads with Kooky CT nonsense about staged assassination attempts and 2024 Election Denialism getting hundreds of recs and rising to the top of the Greatest Page in the past couple of weeks, sadly, I dont see Truth winning that battle anytime soon.

(4,432 posts)But, theres no need to define truth before distinguishing between AI and human created content.
As for AI, it should be clearly labeled in whatever regurgitated iteration.

Yes, All AI should be marked somehow.

I got shellacked during the frankenfruit labeling dust-up
but I was right
lol.
And Im right about this, too. All of what is currently called AI (its not intelligent, no matter what they say) but all of it should be prominently and conspicuously labeled.
