That is what Trump said would happen as soon as the Strait of Hormuz was open and the oil tankers begun to flood the market with oil.
By simple supply and demand, we can expect prices to drop. However, they do not usually drop "like a rock". They tend to take a little longer to fall than to rise.
But, several months out, it is unlikely Democrats will be able to use that as a campaign issue. However, there is the inflation issue on everything else, including groceries. I suspect that will still be an issue come November.
Trump will brag that he won the war because the price of gasoline went down. But, he did not win the war. The world is in a much worse place because of his aggressive war of choice. He has greatly harmed our alliances around the world, including the Middle East. He has chopped off his nose to spite his face.

(151,606 posts)And they will never drop back to the price before Trump's Iran War, either. They never do.
Trump's going to own high gasoline prices for a good long time after we pull our ships out of the area. It's going to take some time for the supply chain to create lower prices, although they will drop some as soon as the war ceases. If it ceases.
Trump is an idiot. Have I said that before? Maybe.

(15,615 posts)At least here in the San Diego region, but we're still looking about $1.20 higher a gallon at the cheaper stations and around $1.70 not a gallon at the average stations. from when the bombing started and the Strait closed.
I doubt it will go down more than 10 cents by November even if any compromise is made and the tankers can start leaving the Gulf next week.
And Grocery Prices are still going to continue to go up for the next two years, because this year's growing season has been utterly trashed.
This has been has been the most Gawdawfully apparent display of Rich Dick-wanking Ignorance in history, worse than the War of the Roses and WWI combined.
And we can blame it on the Wanna Be Plantation Owners/Inquisitors of the Heritage Foundation and their fellow travellers, who honestly believe the resulting famine, disease, and general misery will only be of benefit to them ...
