Any DUers remember that famous June Hurricane Agnes in 1972?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Agnes

Nixon was president.

In the United States, Agnes affected 15 states and the District of Columbia. Almost 110,000 houses were ruined by Agnes, 3,351 of which were destroyed. In addition, 5,211 mobile homes were either damaged or completely destroyed. Farm buildings and small businesses also suffered extensively, with 2,226 and 5,842 structures experiencing major losses or were destroyed. Of the 128 storm-related fatalities, 119 occurred in the United States. Agnes was, at the time, the costliest hurricane on record in U.S. history; losses far exceeded the combined losses from Hurricane Betsy (1965) and Hurricane Camille (1969).[18]

The devastation was enormous. It seemed as if it hit the small mountain communities especially badly - just like Helene.

Only last a short time. Can’t imagine a hurricane that can last days.

I remember it raining for what seemed like forever. Never saw so much rain in my life - before or after. And we weren't even in the worst hit part of PA.

Might have been a viable merger partner for N&W to find a path to the NYC metro, but storm damage was extensive.
