IA-02: Iowa 2nd District race will pit Republican Joe Mitchell and Democrat Lindsay James

Democratic state Rep. Lindsay James will face Republican former state Rep. Joe Mitchell in the general election for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, AP projects.

James, of Dubuque, overtook Democratic challengers Clint Twedt-Ball and Kathy Dolter to win the Democratic nomination. Mitchell was projected the winner of the GOP primary over state Rep. Charlie McClintock, AP reported.

James had 57.3% of the vote in unofficial results with 99% of the vote counted. Twedt-Ball had 24.3% and Dolter had 18.4%.

Mitchell had 61.4% of the vote to 38.6% for McClintock.

The district is generally rated as more likely to go to the Republicans, but I'm hoping we can flip this one. There were more votes in the Democratic primary vs the Republican one for this seat, hopefully that is a good sign. The district does have Cedar Rapids, which is the second largest city.
