CA-26: Irwin (D) on track to succeed Brownley (D) in California
California State Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D) is on track to fill the seat being vacated by Rep. Julia Brownley (D-Calif.) in the House, according to Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ).
Irwin has locked down one of the top two spots to move on to November in the race for Californias 26th Congressional District with 40.09 percent of the vote, DDHQ numbers show. Republican businessman Sam Gallucci also locked down a spot in the general election later this year, bringing in 22.03 percent of the vote.
Irwin currently represents District 42 in the California State Assembly, stretching over Los Angeles and Ventura counties. According to her website, the House hopeful entered the assembly in 2014 in the 44th District and is the former mayor of Thousand Oaks, spending two terms in the role.
If she wins in November, Irwin will follow Brownley, who announced in January that she would not run for reelection. The outgoing lawmaker first entered Congress in 2013.
