Why is the transportation secretary complaining about 'DEI bike lanes'?

The basic idea behind diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives is relatively straightforward: Schools, businesses and other institutions have used a range of policies and incentives to create diverse and inclusive workforces and student bodies. In recent years, Republicans and their allies decided that DEI is a “woke” scourge that must be defeated at all costs.

The trouble is that some in the party have adopted a rather expansive definition of the underlying idea. The New Republic noted this week:

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Tuesday that his department would redirect $1.73 billion in Biden-era grants away from establishing “DEI bike lanes” to build roads and bridges instead.

So, what exactly is a “DEI bike lane?”

DEI Is Bad!
Bike lanes are Bad!
Therefore, bike lanes are DEI.

Doesn't make any sense, does it? Unless you're a MAGAt. Then, it makes perfect sense:

DEI is bad because it means white male Republicans are inconvenienced by some things they don't like..
Bike lanes are bad, because white male Republicans don't like having to look out for bicycles on the road.
Therefore, since being annoyed is an inconvenience, Bike lanes are obviously DEI.

8. Maybe it's because MAGA considers bike lanes to be a means of public transportation

on which people ride their (privately-owned) bicycles, and public transportation is bad and DEI because it''s public, even though city streets, which are also paid for with public funds and on which people drive their privately-owned cars, for some reason are not considered to be a means of public transportation. Maybe it's because some people who can't afford to buy cars ride bicycles and so bike lanes benefit low-income people which is also bad and DEI? Or maybe it's because bicycles don't use fossil fuels, benefiting the environment, which is also bad and DEI? Or because bicyclists sometimes wear spandex pants, which are tight and therefore inherently gay, which is especially bad and DEI?
