Someone explain to me how Argentina didn't put this away in regular time?

That is all.

to that tiny nation. Switzerland is down to 10 and still took them to overtime. Yet the announcers are acting like Argentina is playing perfectly.
Arg 2-1 in ET.

(30,145 posts)They probably won't, as England likes to choke at the worst times.
And, that game will probably be fixed for Argentina as well.

(8,787 posts)Remember, Balogun had a one game automatic ban and that was even suspended.
It's incredible how FIFA bends the rules for Argentina.

But Argentina arent as good as they were 4 years ago. They struggle to beat Cabo Verde, then struggle to beat Egypt. No wonder they struggled to beat Switzerland.
England v. Argentina here we go.

(23,288 posts)but it was absolutely the correct call. The Swiss player was falling while the Argentine was still a yard away.
England v Argentina is a classic rivalry. Both of them were not at their best and had some luck fall their way today. It will be interesting to see who can rebound faster into form.

(23,288 posts)Messi is looking tired. The second yellow was a gift to Argentina, but it was flagrant dive; the call was correct

(115,467 posts)And while there may be arguments about previous "calls," the penalty against the Swiss player seemed spot-on. Never a happy thing to see a player sent out of the game and I'd agree this was the case tonight too, but I think they got the call "right."
Besides, even if you don't like Argentina specifically, it is kind of nice to see one Western Hemisphere team left in the final four against Europe.
May the best team win, but I'm still rooting for Messi and his team-mates. I don't really consider France, England, Spain as underdogs, so I do think the best team will prevail.
Still, I'm happy to have seen one of the GOAT of world cup soccer (and soccer in general) if not THE GOAT in play for probably the last time in a world cup.
Okay, let the anger toward Argentina (or sour grapes, depending...) re-commence.

(222 posts)But damn, its not like he had two yellows back to back. The one in the first half was legit. He had halftime to get settled, and yes he was likely going to get hit, but why simulate a hit to try and get a call. With video review there was no way he could pull it off.
