I realize I just posted pics of Lindsey Graham with drones on DU, but I just saw this one:
I am just guessing about a possible tooth problem problem--but bad tooth infections are serious problems.

(28,889 posts)True but in theory only. Ive never lost a patient directly from a dental infection in nearly 50 years. Ive only known of a tiny handful among dentists in center city Philadelphia.

(55,897 posts)the infection can spread to the jaw and to the bloodstream. Namely sepsis.
Specifically, a jaw or tooth infection can be fatal if left untreated. Bacteria can spread from the infected area into your bloodstream, brain, or heart. This can cause severe, life-threatening conditions like sepsis (blood poisoning), Ludwigs angina (swelling that blocks your airway), or a brain abscess.

Probably said he'd have the tooth/jaw looked at right after the interview.

(781 posts)It was a molar and the infection (abscess) had gone from my gum into my face, towards my eye. I looked like I'd had a stroke and spoke like that, too. Went to the ER. Got antibiotics. Cured. My dentist, btw, told me antibiotics do not work for an infected tooth. Tooth pulled a week later. Dentist fired. The oral surgeon had a Ph.D. in microbiology and he was shocked that any dentist thought that.
Maybe that's what happened. Also, with me, absolutely no pain.
My first thought was that he looked like he'd had a stroke. My first guess, before now, was that he died from deep vein thrombosis (DVT) since he'd been on planes a lot.
The left side of his forehead looks funny - like something transparent is adhered to it.

(2,541 posts)The left side of his face is definitely swollen and m8sshapen. I did a double take because it looks like the Cowardly Lion's mask in Wizard of Oz. The whole cheek is rounded compared to the opposite side.
Two down, third time's the charm! 😏

(2,398 posts)While his face looks swollen in the pic, it could also be showing asymmetry from Bells palsy or a stroke. If he had an infection, its very likely he wouldve had access to a doc and antibiotics fast, not had it go out of control and just headed home.

(2,398 posts)While antibiotics wouldnt help a tooth infection per se, they would be quick and easy to prescribe to prevent an infection from becoming systemic or spreading further around his face and head. Taking a plane with a tooth/jaw infection would be quite painful, and potentially dangerous since hed be stuck in the air for many hours. His staff and diplomatic staff would likely have insisted on the quick solution of antibiotics to prevent worsening/spreading and to combat fever, and some high-test pain meds, before shipping him home. But the pic may also be showing facial asymmetry that is not due to the side of his face swelling. That could be neurological.
