Former senior FBI and intel officials say he is planning to attack democracy itself. As President Trumps primetime address to the nation on Thursday draws near, former senior FBI and intelligence officials told the Daily Beast that what he touts as a speech emphasizing the importance of free and fair elections will, in fact, be part of an attack on democracy itself.
Trump has announced a 9 p.m. Thursday speech, demanding TV airtimewhich they have yet to promisefor what he claims is a matter of national importance. But to those who have worked at the pinnacle of law enforcement, something else is afoot.
If I was still working a terrorism investigation and a network started coming together and getting into key positions and they started gathering the information and the materials that they needed to carry out a plot, those are things we would call warnings and indicators, a retired and profoundly worried FBI official told the Daily Beast.
The official said that when it comes to Trump, that is what is happening.
They detailed a growing list of warnings and indicators. That list is detailed, and specific. It was led by the replacement of Paul Brown as special agent in charge of the FBI Atlanta Field Office. Browns sin was to express reservations about the Department of Justices decision to investigate the 2020 election, which Trump insists was rigged.

(43,520 posts)... because their replacements are Chump-humpers and MAGA-cultists.
The "Feds" who lost their jobs had career training, and a lifetime of service to Uncle Sam. Those are the ones I would believe, and prefer to listen to anyway. Political convictions are secondary to the truth of how Chump is destroying our government.
I'm glad they are speaking up ahead of this fiasco.

(4,367 posts)A couple of anonymous former government officials are worried about things the Trump administration is doing that were already public knowledge. Behind a paywall. With a misleading headline. Can't we do better than this?

Maybe you didn't read the entire article?
The last few paragraphs tell what's at stake. The way to read this situation is that he's petrified and he's floundering, doing whatever he can think of because the game's over for him if the Dems take the House back and Dog forbid, the Senate. Here's a quote:
The rest of their administration is frozen, he said. They get nothing done. No more of their agenda, nothing.

(4,367 posts)I just read the last few paragraphs again. I agree with those officials. Not sure what else there is to say. I still don't think much of the article.

(43,940 posts)It was misleading. What I liked about the article is it tells what's left at the FBI. I've been wondering about that.

(473 posts)Trump is doing what W did in Florida in 2000. W knew he couldn't "win" Florida without stealing it. This is exactly what Trump is now trying to do with the midterms and there are now 6 radical GOP SCOTUS judges who'll let him get away with it.
FakeNoose
(43,520 posts).... he's sowing the seeds of doubt in the crazy MAGAs, and there's no evidence that any fraud will actually happen.

(473 posts)The now infamous Jeb/Harris "felon" purge that illegally removed more than 50,000 legally registered mostly African American dems from Florida's voting rolls before election day 2000. There was also Jeb's numerous public threats that he would carry Florida for his brother which he wound up doing. There's also the illegally designed now infamous Palm Beach county "butterfly" ballot and the list goes on.

(43,520 posts)There won't be purges like that again because each state is updating its voter registration roles annually.
Even in Pennsylvania (a purple-slash-blue state) we are checking the voters data against the drivers license data. Any discrepancies between the two, it's assumed that the voter data is incorrect and the driver data is correct. Why? because people move, get married, go to college, go in the army or any number of things. They keep their drivers license up-to-date but they probably don't remember to change their voter registration and update it promptly.
It was shocking the first time we ran our revisions, and it probably was for most other states, that so many names and addresses didn't match. It's not fraud ... it's just the state finally getting the info correct on the voter registration records. Other states do the same and it's not purging legitimate voters, it's correcting the records.
Maybe someone is listed as "Bob Jones" on the voter registration and maybe he's "Robert Jones" on the driver's data. That gets kicked out because they both have to match. So then Bob Jones needs to re-register and he can still vote in the same year, but he needed to check it while there was still time to re-register. (In PA it's 30 days before the election.)
What makes it hard for minority voters and some senior citizens is that they don't always have a drivers license to show as an easy ID. I believe it's discriminatory to a certain degree, but those who have no drivers license can get a Real ID without the drivers license and use it as their regular ID. This is accepted at every voting precinct and polling location. I believe the way we do it in Pennsylvania is the same everywhere else.

(4,739 posts)There's 109 days until the mid terms. People are angry much more a just plain tired of that demented asshole's daily drumbeat hate. I'm one of theem. I see people come in the shoppe, they all know we're a liberal business, and they all say the same thing..."When will this be over". So tonight if you take in the circus, you'll see that it's all show. Pathetic, grasping demented fool, trying to act as thugh he's still in charge.
He is not.

(152,220 posts)That's what I wish. All "former" federal employees should be identified as such. Headlines should not refer to them as "Feds."
The article may be completely accurate, but it is spoiled by its headline.

(30,955 posts)First, he claimed that the administration will "mitigate any harm" and take "swift action to ensure that sensitive voter data is better protected." Then, he claimed that they would "fix" voting in the states. Most importantly, he "ordered DHS to notify every state about noncitizens on their voter rolls and direct them to remove all ineligible voters from the lists immediately."
