"Latest Trump BS" was a new top-level forum opened just after Inauguration Day. The intent was to attempt to separate Trump's substance-free trolling from actual actions that were being taken by his administration. In practice, it quickly became apparent that the forum would not be useful, for a couple of reasons. First, the amount of misinformation being spewed by Trump and his minions is too great, and second, it was not easy for members to decide what to post where. The forum was essentially redundant with General Discussion and Latest Breaking News. When I asked members last week if they wanted to keep it or not, the majority opinion was that it should be retired.
"The Way Forward" will remain, since it has a more defined focus. This forum is for discussions about the future of Democratic Party and what Democrats are, or should, be doing during this time. At the moment, plenty of those discussions are going on in GD and elsewhere -- if the volume becomes too great (or too disruptive) for GD, we will start locking such discussions and redirecting them to The Way Forward. However, at this time we're not going to do that -- we're going to continue to allow members to choose where they want to post these discussions.
Thanks for your patience while we tried experimenting with these new forums!

(4,050 posts)I welcome a place to concentrate those.
It's also a place to discuss the merits of various leadership figures. They are vital to the way forward.

(23,550 posts)As in the protest at the USAID building.
If we keep seeing this kind of down and dirty approach, I believe DU will see much less discontented content.

(1,633 posts)Steve Bannon put words to their strategy, saying that it was to "flood the zone with shit" to prevent their opposition from rallying against specific policies because they were overwhelmed and fragmented by the number of things they had to deal with.
For now, there has been an insane amount of BS that are actually substantive actions, not just rhetoric. Much of it exceeds what should be the scope of presidential powers, like terminating USAID, which was created by an act of Congress, so Congress would need to be the ones who terminated or changed it.
I guess the challenge will to be to file actions against all of these things in court - and hope there aren't many Aileen Cannon type Trump appointed judges that draw the assignments. I'm not sure how much Congressional action can stop it, but being in the minority and losing the Senate seats in PA and OH really hurts because we need 4 or 5 Republican Congressmen and 4 Republican Senators to get anything passed.

(19,706 posts)I missed the vote about retiring th Trump BS forum, but I would have definitely voted yes to that.
I also approve of keeping "The Way Forward," and I really wish people would start using it more, instead of cluttering up GD with those discussions. Right now they are All. Over. The. Place. I hope this changes with time.
