NC State Supreme Court Blocks State From Certifying Democrat as Winner in Top Court Case

Source: The Hill

The North Carolina Supreme Court voted to block the certification of Democratic Justice Allison Riggs as the winner of her state Supreme Court race while her GOP opponent challenges the legitimacy of certain ballots.

The 5-1 ruling from the court on Tuesday places a temporary stay on the state elections board from declaring Riggs the winner over Republican Jefferson Griffin, a judge on the state Court of Appeals. The five-justice Republican majority voted to grant the stay, while Democratic Justice Anita Earls dissented. Riggs had recused herself from the case.

They support Griffin many more races will be affected. The decision will affect the outcomes of the NCGA races, too.

This is bad on several levels.

The safe harbor date? How can they do this? State's have already certified their votes.

And they worked like dogs to get them. This is where my feelings of hopelessness re: our democracy get cemented. North Carolina may be trending purple, but their Supreme Court is young and certainly not going to do people of color, women, lgbtq, workers, or voters any favors.

31 states have a Republican controlled Supreme court.

The real problem we have is the filthy rich in this country being able to patiently fight the long game knowing their status is secure. They spend tens of millions of dollars hiring rubes to go fight their Turfroots wars playing them as if they were pieces on a GO board, knowing full well that soon enough every opponent pieces has been removed and the game is over.
We're just about there folks.

... It's not lifetime appointments. These R judges are up for re-election. Not any time soon but they will be.

IMO we need an independent judiciary.

"Griffin has been challenging the validity of 60,000 votes cast in the race, arguing these voters’ registration forms were incomplete because they didn’t include a Social Security or driver’s license number."

What about the other 5, 440,000 votes cast?
