Donald Trump Rages at Gavin Newsom Over California Fires

Source: Newsweek

[snip]

Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday: "Governor Gavin Newscum refused to sign the water restoration declaration put before him that would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excess rain and snow melt from the North, to flow daily into many parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way."

He further claimed that Newsom prioritized protecting the Delta smelt, a small fish species, over the needs of Californians. "Now the ultimate price is being paid," Trump added.

In response, Izzy Gardon, Director of Communications for Governor Gavin Newsom, told Newsweek: "There is no such document as the water restoration declaration, that is pure fiction. The Governor is focused on protecting people, not playing politics, and making sure firefighters have all the resources they need".

At the core of Trump's recent criticism is the ongoing debate over California's water policies, specifically those impacting the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. Trump has long claimed that water needed for fire prevention has been diverted to protect the delta smelt, an issue that has sparked controversy for years.

It took the police and paramedics many hours to remove her, and she was still cussing up a storm and trying to bite them after she was sedated and strapped to a gurney to be hauled away in an ambulance.

The police might have shot her dead if she wasn't a little old white lady.

About half my grandma's neighbors adored her, the rest were terrified of her.

My mom had already taken away my grandma's guns -- or so she thought -- but we found one later. Thankfully my grandma had either forgotten where she'd hidden it or had been rational enough not to use it.

No nursing home or assisted living place would keep my grandma long, even those that claimed they could handle difficult patients, so she ended up living with my parents. She was indirectly responsible for one of the worst weekends of my life when I couldn't take any more of her crazy and stormed off on Thanksgiving day.

I think Trump is more twisted than my crazy grandma and a lot more dangerous.

Three words, "Fuck off, mutherf*ker!".

I've noticed over the course of the last 8 years that I've been on this site that profanity has increased a lot, and I'm not just speaking for myself. 8 years ago hardly any posts had so many "4 letter words". I personally believe that my own use of profanity (in several languages to boot) has increased since tRump was POTUS and that is considerable. I'm an advocate of the use of profanity as a release of anger and frustrations that build up and need to let off some steam.

Earlier tonight I was re-watching a Barney Miller episode and there was a guy who wrote a dictionary of all the profanity on Earth. His theory was that societies need profanity in order to release stress and anger. I couldn't agree more.

I would make a slight correction to the statement

"The Governor is focused on protecting people, not playing politics"

In 2025 America, we MUST be able to "focus on protecting people", while forcefully and repeatedly "playing politics".

If we can learn one things, let it be this: there is no tragedy, terror, catastrophe, or conflagration that the Reich-Wing fascists won't exploit for political gain.

60. As wildfires crisis continues, Trump targets California's governor
Thu Jan 9, 2025, 05:34 PM
Jan 9

As California deals with deadly wildfires, the president-elect thought it'd be a good time to launch a political offensive against Gavin Newsom.
https://bsky.app/profile/stevebenen.com/post/3lfb4kvldr22b

@davidfrenchjag.bsky.social this week made the point that Trump "is at his absolute worst in a crisis."

The president-elect using wildfires to launch a new political offensive against California's governor helps drive the point home.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/wildfires-crisis-continues-trump-targets-californias-governor-rcna186884

Around the same time, the president’s successor also turned his attention to the crisis in California, though Donald Trump had a different message in mind. The New York Times reported:

President-elect Donald J. Trump blamed California’s Democratic governor on Wednesday for the failure to contain fires engulfing parts of the Los Angeles area, accusing the state’s government of letting environmental policies run amok. ... Mr. Trump’s angry commentary came even as Southern California residents were fleeing three separate fires. Two people have been confirmed to have died from the fires, and authorities were warning the area’s residents to be ready to evacuate their homes at a moment’s notice.

The president-elect’s latest political offensive began late Wednesday morning, when Trump published an item to his social media platform that referred to the California governor as “Gavin Newscum” — as if this were an appropriate time for an incoming national leader to peddle juvenile taunts. The Republican added that he considers Newsom to be “incompetent,” adding, “He is the blame [sic] for this.”

Roughly two hours later, Trump kept the offensive going with a follow-up item that again referred to the governor as “Newscum” and condemned the local government’s efforts to contain the fires. Sixteen minutes later, the president-elect turned his attention to the incumbent in the White House: “NO WATER IN THE FIRE HYDRANTS, NO MONEY IN FEMA. THIS IS WHAT JOE BIDEN IS LEAVING ME. THANKS JOE!”.....

We’re constantly confronted with evidence to bolster the point. Last week, Trump saw a deadly attack in New Orleans and responded with ugly lies and bizarre conspiracy theories. In the recent past, there was a deadly hurricane in North Carolina, to which the Republican also responded with a different set of ugly lies and bizarre conspiracy theories.

Part of this is likely the result of Trump’s lack of empathy. It probably doesn’t help that he’s far too indifferent to the substance of governing to offer constructive recommendations, which leaves him with little more than cheap, partisan attacks.

But French’s point also rings true: When there’s a real crisis, Americans are suffering and it’s time to get to work finding solutions, Americans simply can’t count on Trump to tell the truth, to care about what matters, to demonstrate real character, to communicate like a grown-up or to resist the urge to exploit tragedies for political gain.

What Americans are seeing is a reminder of who Trump is — and why he’s so ill-suited for national leadership.
