Tennessee Republican proposes amendment to allow Trump to serve third term
Source: thehill.com
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) proposed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would allow President Trump to serve a third term in the White House so that the country can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs.
Ogles proposed an amendment on Thursday that says, No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.
Like other U.S. presidents, Trump is barred from running for a third White House term by the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.
President Trumps decisive leadership stands in stark contrast to the chaos, suffering, and economic decline Americans have endured over the past four years, Ogles said in a Thursday statement. He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nations decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal.

(10,420 posts)This is the Trump Amendment. It would apply only to Trump (and I guess Grover Cleveland, but he came and went before the 22nd Amendment).

(4,357 posts)The actual more ridiculous thought than that the states would ratify suck an amendment is that he would live that long AND be of sound mind to manage the presidency. Oh wait.

He's barely functional now. But he is useful. Dr's reports will all be perfect. Press will be uninvited to White House.
It will be "Weekend at Bernie's" until he gets them to the Rapture.

(2,374 posts)The Constitution would still need to be amended to repeal the 22nd Amendment.
Then amended again with the Trump amendment.
As already correctly noted, more meritless political theater pandering to Trump and his Cult members.

There's a representative who will be naming everything in his district for DJT. Welcome to the Grand Old Trump Opry.

He might very well have been kidding, though the Republican has made similar comments several times in recent years, and hes not alone. Last month, Steve Bannon talked up the idea of Trump running again in 2028 he suggested it might be constitutionally permissible, despite the plain language of the 22nd Amendment and Fox News host Trey Gowdy, a former Republican member of Congress, had similar comments on the air.
Its against this backdrop that NBC News reported on the third day of the presidents final term.
Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., introduced a resolution that would amend the Constitution and allow Trump to seek a third term in office. This amendment would allow President Trump to serve three terms, ensuring that we can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs, Ogles said in a statement [Thursday].
Lets make one thing perfectly clear at the outset: Ogles proposed constitutional amendment will not go anywhere. In every Congress, plenty of lawmakers unveil silly proposals, knowing full well that they stand no chance of success, and this measure from the Tennessee Republican clearly falls into that category.....
Given everything were seeing about the state of Republican Party politics in 2025, this race to the bottom is likely to get worse before it gets better.
